The Ethical Framework review began in 2023 and identified a number of data sources to evidence its findings. Some of the data sources have been in the form of queries to the ethics service and additionally the member survey. These sources have shown an increase in members working with clients outside the UK and with members working internationally. This increase can be seen since publication of the last Ethical Framework for the counselling professions (2018).
The aims of this session are to align with the evidence primarily from the ethics service on how members are working with clients outside the UK or working internationally. The session aims to provide some of the findings from the new Ethical Framework and to illustrate how ethical decision making could be used when working in these increasingly complex modes of working.

This session explains what the term intersectionality means and why it is important, not only in the context of EDI, but in understanding the term to embed EDI in the way we work. The聽聽defines intersectionality as 鈥渢he interconnected nature of social categorisations such as race, class, and gender, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage鈥.
Intersectionality is a vital framework for understanding systems of power, for example a black woman may experience misogyny and racism, however, she鈥檒l experience misogyny differently from a white woman and racism differently from a black man.
Intersectionality helps us acknowledge that we need to do more to ensure that the way we work and the way we provide support and therapies don鈥檛 solely represent the experiences of one group of people only e.g. white, middle class, able-bodied, heterosexual etc.
Intersectionality isn鈥檛 about adding up different kinds of inequality, and doesn鈥檛 look to simply add up the sum of different oppressions (e.g.聽gender + race + disability). Intersectionality highlights how systems of inequality interact with one another and create distinct experiences and outcomes.

This session aims to provide therapists working in private practice with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to effectively identify and respond to safeguarding concerns. Safeguarding is a critical aspect of therapeutic work, ensuring that clients, particularly vulnerable individuals, are protected from harm, abuse, or neglect. Therapists in private practice may encounter complex safeguarding situations and often work without the direct support of larger organisational structures. This workshop aims to equip therapists with practical strategies, clear protocols, and the confidence to take appropriate action when safeguarding issues arise, emphasising that therapists are not alone in this responsibility. The workshop aims to empower therapists to create safer therapeutic environments while maintaining professional boundaries and ethical practice by fostering awareness, competence, and collaboration.
This presentation is available in person only.

Therapy provides the safe space for self-exploration, emotional processing, and
understanding underlying patterns, while coaching injects practical strategies, accountability, and motivation for tangible progress. The therapist鈥檚 role in addressing
past trauma or limiting beliefs can create a foundation of emotional clarity, while the
coach鈥檚 focus on forward movement and setting achievable goals fosters empowerment
and momentum.
In alignment with 麻豆原创 Coaching competence framework, this session aims to help therapists understand how my work as a coach informs my work as a therapist (and vice versa) to improve client outcomes. Based on a presentation for the 麻豆原创 Making Connections Conference in 2024 and a course I have developed on integrating coaching
into therapy, this workshop contains practical examples as well as case studies. This experiential workshop aims to help therapists consider if they wish to pursue further CPD
in coaching and how they might integrate it into their practice. It considers different therapy modalities as well as client profiles.
