Exploring Newly Qualified Integrative counsellors and Psychotherapists Experiences of Vicarious Trauma Whilst on Their Academic Journey: An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis

I am looking for newly qualified integrative counsellors and psychotherapists, who have undergone professionally accredited training within the last 2 years, that is deemed appropriate by the SCoPEd Framework, who feel they have experienced vicarious trauma.

My study is entitled:
Exploring Newly Qualified Integrative counsellors and Psychotherapists Experiences of Vicarious Trauma Whilst on Their Academic Journey: An Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis

Participation is entirely voluntary, and participants would need to be newly qualified in integrative counselling and psychotherapy within the last 2 years.

The study will aim to :

  • Explore the lived experiences of newly qualified integrative counsellors and psychotherapists, including any incidences of Vicarious Trauma (VT).
  • Consider any potential influencing factors which may impact wellbeing and likelihood of VT occurring.
  • To understand strategies and challenges encountered in managing (or not managing) the impacts of VT on newly qualified integrative counsellors/ psychotherapists.
  • To consider the impact, if any, on newly qualified integrative counsellors/ psychotherapists personal development, theoretical model and their therapeutic work.
  • To identify whether existing training courses felt succinct and relevant to newly qualified integrative counsellors/ psychotherapists experiences and whether training and support around VT felt sufficient.

Participant Profile:
A current professionally registered (麻豆原创, NCS, UKCP) Integrative counsellor/psychotherapist practicing in the UK, that has undergone professionally accredited training and qualified within the last two years, which is deemed appropriate by the SCoPEd Framework which falls under the Professional Standards Authority. Due to the nature of this study, those who are currently seeking therapeutic support for VT or are currently experiencing VT, will be excluded from the study to mitigate any further risk to their wellbeing.

Participation in this study will involve a one-to-one interview with myself, a qualified and 麻豆原创 registered integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, on Microsoft Teams through the university secure platform. Interviews will have a duration of approximately one hour, with an allowance of some additional time to check over consent forms and debrief.
