Counsellor Self-Care and Parental Roles in Childhood
Are you a qualified counsellor living and practicing in the UK and self-identify as having fulfilled a parental role* during childhood?
*Please see the bullet points below for definition
If so, would you like to take part in a study exploring the current self-care experiences of counsellors who fulfilled a parental role in childhood?
My name鈥檚 Kerry Bowers and I鈥檓 studying MSc Psychotherapeutic Counselling at the University of Staffordshire. I鈥檓 seeking fellow qualified counsellors to take part in my research study that鈥檚 seeking to explore how counsellors currently understand and practice self-care when they鈥檝e experienced taking on different parental roles during childhood.
Taking part in the study would involve having an interview with me, lasting up to 90 minutes either online or face-to-face, exploring what fulfilling a parental role as a child was like for you, as well as what your current experience is of caring for yourself.
To take part in this study you need to:
- Be over 18 years of age
- Be a qualified, practicing counsellor in the UK
- Self-identify as having experienced fulfilling a parental role during childhood. *This may include any of the following: feeling or being responsible for the emotional or physical wellbeing of a parent; serving as a confidant and/or providing guidance and nurturance to them; caring for a sick or disabled parent or sibling; being required to 鈥減arent鈥 siblings; taking responsibility for maintaining the household (e.g.: meals, finances); or serving as a language broker for parents.
If you meet these criteria and would like to get involved, or just to find out more information, please get in touch with me on b024465m@student.staffs.ac.uk
Many thanks, Kerry
