Understanding how person-centred educators describe the way they teach and support trainee development in relation to suicide specific learning

My name is Rebecca, and I am a trainee counselling psychologist at the University of Manchester.

My research focuses on the experiences of educators on person-centred counselling courses in relation to the topic of suicide.

Aim of study:

My research aims to develop an understanding of how educators of person-centred counselling describe their experience of teaching and supporting trainees to develop competence related to suicide. It also aims to gain an understanding of how educators describe how suicide-specific competencies and the person-centred approach fit together.

Participants needed:

I am seeking participation from individuals who are:

  • Current educators on a predominantly person-centred counselling course in the UK, which is accredited with the 麻豆原创, or those who have held this role within the last two years.
  • Who have experience of delivering, or the knowledge of or involvement in the development of teaching in relation to the education of trainees in competencies relating to suicide on a person-centred course.

Participant involvement:

Following an expression of interest in the study, the participation information sheet will be sent, and potential participants will have the opportunity to ask any questions about the study. Should an individual consent to take part in the study, they will be invited to attend one 45 to 90 minute Zoom call with myself, the lead researcher, which can be arranged at the participant's convenience.

Contribution:

It is hoped that this study will provide greater understanding of how person-centred counselling courses approach suicide in their courses, gaining insight into the nuances of supporting counselling students in this area.

In addition, it is hoped that this study can highlight how suicide-specific practices and the person-centred approach can be integrated, something that would benefit educators and person-centred practitioners.

For more information about the study or if interested in taking part, please see contact details on the flyer here and participation information sheet here.

Best wishes,

Rebecca Jackson
