Philadelphia Cab Owners Lose Bid to Ban Uber Service

By | March 4, 2015

Philadelphia cab companies, threatened by the expansion of Uber Technologies Inc., lost a court bid to block the on-demand car service from operating in the city.

Checker Cab Philadelphia Inc. and 44 other companies failed to show they would be irreparably harmed if Uber continued to operate, a federal judge ruled Tuesday. The complaint, filed in December alleging unfair competition, also falls short of demonstrating a likelihood of success, the judge said. The ruling is only preliminary and the case will continue.
