About me and my therapy practice
I am a graduate qualified, accredited integrative counsellor with over 20 years experience. I also have CBT qualification at masters level, and advanced training for trauma work.
I also have a qualification in couple counselling. I have attended continuing professional development courses every year.
That said, most importantly I aim to give you a calm, confidential space to explore your difficulties; and together start to find ways to resolve them or manage them. As we are all individual personalities and come with various issues and feelings, this may involve different approaches to suit the situation. This would be fully discussed and agreed with you before we start.
Practice description
I work with adults and adult couples.
After I have listened carefully to what has brought you to counselling I will suggest what I think would be the best approach and give you some idea of the number of sessions that we are likely to need. However, it is entirely up to you (the client) to decide when to end. As we go along I will check with you how the counselling is progressing and your experience of it.
My previous experience includes being senior counsellor in a college, and counselling and running anxiety management groups for NHS. I still do work for Nuffield and a Veterans charity.
My private practice is supervised (a Â鶹Դ´ requirement) by a very experienced PHD clinical supervisor.
My first session
I offer a 30 minute initial meeting where you can decide if you would like to 'work' with me. I can listen to see if I think I can be of help to you and you can ask any questions that you might have.
This can be face -2-face or on zoom (trauma f2f only)
If you decide to go ahead further sessions are 50 minutes long and can be arranged weekly or more flexibly.

Practice description
(At present working in person or online )
I offer a confidential initial meeting with you (without charge) to decide together if counselling and/or CBT can be of help. My approach is to listen carefully to what you tell me about your situation or issues, and then to give you really clear information about how you might move forward to feeling better. The approach that I use will depend on you as an individual. I use over 20 years of experience and continuing Professional Development to inform my practice.
Couples - I would meet with you together initially and then individually for one session each.
My first session
For Individuals
It is usually a big step for someone to have counselling if they haven't experienced it before (and sometimes even if they have)
So in the first session it's important that you feel really listened to, not judged, and that you feel in a safe place. It's also important that you can take the session at your own pace and be able to ask any questions or raise any concerns that might arise.
So much depends on building enough trust and confidence in the work we will do together: that it's important that you experience enough of this in the first session to be able to continue with counselling. During this session I would also ask for information which might inform the work and also we would agree a 'contract'/agreement which would set out the details of what we agree about the counseling (includes focus/confidentiality/contact etc. /no of sessions/fees)
For Couples
As above with equal time for participants to say what they need to/ ask questions/ raise concerns etc
