About me and my therapy practice

I have been a counsellor for over 20 years. I provide a safe space where you can feel supported to share and explore with openness and honesty.

My training is based on an integrative model that blends aspects of person centred, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and Gestalt approaches.

This combination helps sessions focus on here-and-now (reality-based) understanding of there-and-then experiences (historic or current problematic situations), exploring what works and doesn鈥檛 work for you.

Any aspect of change can be hard 鈥 not to mention elusive. I work with care, respect and compassion to meet you wherever you are in your life.

I try to represent a benchmark of patience and determination for your process and progress through encouragement and support on the one hand and measured, respectful challenge on the other.

As you gain clarity and confidence, you can improve your own focus to set and achieve your goals 鈥 whether this is making decisions, coming to terms with and easing emotional pain from hurt, grief, loss, disappointment or trauma, or finding greater clarity around your life鈥檚 direction or purpose.

I help you balance bigger-picture understanding with important smaller details that can easily be overlooked 鈥 and undervalued. It is often elements of 鈥渕icro-progress鈥 like these that form crucial structure for your willingness and persistence to stay with your self-determined goals of understanding, relief, growth or change. The approach has proven effective for many.

Together we can build your insight, understanding and self-compassion so you can keep going towards your goals, and feel more able to go forward with whatever life holds for you.

Practice description

I work face-to-face and online and can be quite flexible with times to best suit what you need. Appointments are scheduled for 60 minutes. I understand that difficult times for your mental health can often be associated with reduced or limited income (perhaps you are not working or are a student, for example) so please ask about concessionary rates based on your ability to pay.

I have practised as a massage therapist over the same time and more recently added sound therapy into the mix to be able to offer a unique blend of holistic therapies to meet the widest range of individual needs. My experience includes teaching at the college where I studied in both counselling and massage.

My own lived experience includes the aspects of neurodiversity and sexuality. Being recently diagnosed (at 62) with ADHD, I know only too well some of the challenges of achieving or maintaining good mental and emotional health.
