About me and my therapy practice
I have 19 years experience as an integrative counsellor in private practice.
My main areas of practice are:
* Anxiety and Stress
You may be feeling overwhelmed, stressed and despondent, which can be a normal reaction to life events. If it goes on for longer than you think it should or you’re having difficulties coping with your day to day life then I can help. I have assisted clients, both in the workplace and outside, to deal with the pressures they face.
* Relationship Issues
You don’t have to come for counselling with your partner to improve your relationship. I have helped many individuals work through their own issues in order to get the most out of their relationship.
* Relationship Breakup
You may be experiencing the loss of a relationship through breakup and be feeling immense pain. My aim is to help you deal with the pain, to gain insight and regain the confidence to move on.
* Life Changes and Personal Development
You may be feeling stuck in some way and are looking to work out the next step but don’t know how. I can help you explore your options and to find what you need, to achieve a more satisfactory and fulfilling life.
I completed training in 2002 as a therapeutic counsellor in the Relational Approach, which is a person centred, humanistic approach. I have completed further training and draw on my skills as is most appropriate and beneficial for my clients and includes CBT and Mindfulness techniques, Stress Management, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology and Coaching.
Practice description
I generally work with clients on a short term basis of between 5 and 8 sessions. In some cases more sessions are needed.
The sessions last for 50 minutes and the client decides if they prefer video or telephone sessions. I prefer to use Skype for the video sessions and all my clients have found it easy to download if they don’t already use it.
Mostly I help clients deal with what’s going on in their current situation rather than unravelling what’s happened in their past. Although the past is relevant in giving context to the situation it’s not the main focus.
My first session
Normally in the first session, I’ll carry out a short assessment to determine what you hope to gain from counselling and the number of sessions it may take. I’ll ask you a few questions about your background and you will explain your situation and why you feel the need for counselling. This may take up the whole session but by the end of it I’m open to questions and we will have an idea as to whether we can work together.
