About me and my therapy practice
I am a senior accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with 30 years of clinical experience, having qualified in 1995. Over my career, I have conducted more than 30,000 one-to-one therapy sessions, supporting clients through a wide range of challenges, from trauma and anxiety to complex mental health issues. I hold a master’s degree in counselling and psychotherapy and am a qualified EMDR practitioner, having completed accredited training with EMDR Europe.
My approach is integrative and evidence-based, drawing on therapies that are effective and tailored to individual needs. I have a particular interest in transactional analysis (TA), compassion-focused therapy (CFT), internal family systems (IFS), gestalt psychotherapy, and chairwork. As a qualified adult educator and accredited mindfulness teacher, I have lectured extensively in counselling, psychotherapy, and mindfulness.
Alongside my clinical work, I am widely recognised for my contributions to online psychology education. I have developed training programs used by professionals and institutions worldwide, including The Open University, Education Scotland, the United States Department of Defense, and universities across the UK and US. My videos are also widely used in trauma-informed training for the police, NHS, schools, local government, and other public sector organisations. These programs make psychological knowledge accessible and applicable in real-world settings. A sample of my training can be viewed on the Lewis Psychology YouTube channel.

My first session
Free Initial Telephone Consultation
I offer a free, 15-minute, no-obligation telephone consultation to help determine whether our services are the right fit for you. This conversation allows you to share a little about your concerns, ask any questions about the therapy process, and explore whether counselling or psychotherapy would be beneficial for your needs.
If you decide to proceed, I will gather your contact details along with relevant information about any current medications, mental health conditions, physical health issues, or disabilities that may be impacting your well-being. This helps ensure that therapy is tailored to your individual circumstances.
Your First Session
The first counselling or psychotherapy session provides a safe and supportive space to explore your concerns. You will have the opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy and any challenges you are facing at a pace that feels comfortable for you. If relevant, we may also explore aspects of your background, relationships, or past experiences that could be contributing to your current difficulties.
We will also discuss what you hope to gain from therapy and whether you have any specific goals. Some clients have clear objectives, while others may be unsure. Either way, we will work together to identify what would be most helpful for you.
Towards the end of the session, we can arrange another appointment at a time that suits you. There is no pressure to continue—this is your choice, and you are welcome to take time to decide.
