My Training
I have had many years in training and experience in treating adults from all backgrounds for a wide range of issues.

I offer a quiet, safe, confidential space to talk about your feelings and concerns that brought you to seek therapy.

I trained at the Tavistock Clinic and am an accredited psychodynamic therapist and hold a MSc in Psychodynamic psychotherapy which focuses on self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on the present.  It helps people explore the present patterns in their behaviour and relationships and endeavours to find new approaches to manage and cope with all aspects of their life.

After working, before and during Covid at the Trauma department at The Tavistock Clinic, I began exploring different ways of helping people with Trauma that were more efficacious and chose to train in EMDR, (eye movement desensitisation & reprocessing ).

EMDR is an evidence based model developed to treat patients with trauma related issues, including PTSD. It is based on the AIP model ( Adaptive Information Processing).

About Me
I’ve always been interested in how people think and how they became the person I meet.

Before training to be an adult psychotherapist, I had a professional career as a documentary filmmaker where I met and worked with people from all over the world. That experience made me particularly sensitive to the lives and struggles of people from various backgrounds. It also provided an understanding of people working in the arts who may have specific issues in devising ways to survive outside the boundaries of more conventional society and in finding their own voice.

Practice description

First and foremost, I endeavour to develop a trusting relationship that will form the basis for a therapeutic alliance.

Therapy is so personal that I prefer to meet face to face, especially at the start, as it gives each of us an opportunity to see what it feels like to be in a room together.

If that’s not geographically possible, I’m happy to work on Zoom.

It can take a while to understand a patient’s issues and quite some time for most clients to feel safe with the therapist.

I will listen to you carefully and from time to time ask questions. You will be free to say whatever comes to your mind and I may comment when somethings seems pertinent.

I’m flexible and vary my practice to work most effectively with each person and employ the most constructive way to help them.

I have experience working with a mixture of patients from those who have trauma issues including mental and sexual abuse, PTSD and dysfunctional childhoods, to those struggling with relationships, anxiety, ADHD, find in your identity, loss, illness, addiction and the issues of living in these complicated times.

For clients with trauma related issues, I integrate with EMDR with psychodynamic talk therapy. Clients with Trauma are afflicted by disturbing symptoms that arise from unprocessed traumatic memories. The EMDR model of bilateral stimulation (eye movements) facilitates the processing of the maladaptive memories that overwhelm the mind and can interrupt a person's life and the developmental process.

My first session

The first session will be a 1 hour assessment where I’ll endeavour to understand the issues that have brought you to seek therapy and to determine the best way forward.

This will include a your family background as well as a medical and mental health history.

It will provide the client the opportunity to ask questions and to determine how they might feel about going forward.

At the end of this session, if you choose to go forward, we will discuss schedules, the number of sessions you’d like to start with and fees. In effect, it will be the beginning of a therapeutic alliance.

From then on we will meet weekly for 50 minutes face to face or on Zoom.
