About me and my therapy practice

As a qualified counsellor and accredited Â鶹ԭ´´ member, I provide primarily person-centred support, while incorporating CBT tools when beneficial.

Person-centred counselling focuses on active listening and empowering clients to find their own solutions. CBT includes exercises to explore and understand thoughts, feelings, or behaviours, or to regulate emotions such as anxiety, depression or low self-esteem.

My approach is also trauma-informed, allowing me to effectively support in addressing various challenges faced by clients.

Many reasons might lead someone to seek counselling. Counselling offers a confidential, non-judgemental space to share thoughts and feelings, aiming for understanding and/or change. Choosing the right counsellor for you is essential for a positive outcome. It helps to foster a safe, trusting relationship that supports clients to gain insights and make informed decisions.

Practice description

Due to our unique personalities, beliefs, and experiences, we all respond differently to life's challenges. Sometimes we even sail through the difficult stuff, but then struggle with things that seem relatively inconsequential. I make it a priority to tailor my approach to each client's needs, ensuring personalized support. I believe this helps to develop the trusting and safe relationship, which is so important in supporting clients in their understanding of themselves or their situation, and identifying any changes that might help them going forwards.

Alongside my private practice I have also worked within a number of local organisations who deliver counselling within the community. This has included organisations who specifically support survivors of domestic abuse or sexual abuse, as well as organisations which support general mental health problems, and people with carer responsibilities.

Prior to becoming a Counsellor, I worked within an HR role, and have a solid understanding of mental health issues within the workplace.

If you are struggling with your thoughts, emotions or behaviours, or would like to explore specific experiences in your life, speaking with a professional Counsellor in a safe, supportive environment may help. Taking that first step can lead to meaningful changes in your life.

My first session

In counselling sessions, clients decide what they want to focus on. I actively listen and help them explore their issues without giving specific advice or telling them what to do. Sometimes, I gently challenge clients to help them understand themselves better, but they move at their own pace and in a manner that best suits them.

The first session differs from other sessions. It includes reviewing the counselling agreement and completing an assessment to understand why the client is seeking counselling. This is all done in a relaxed manner and at the client's own pace.

Each session lasts 50 minutes.

If you would like to reach out, I'm available for a free, no-obligation initial telephone consultation to help you determine if I can assist you.
