About me and my therapy practice
All of us face highs and lows in our lives at different stages and ages, therapy can be a courageous and empowering decision.
I believe we all have the capacity to change and I am dedicated to helping others bring about healing and growth. I respond to and tailor my sessions to the client, whilst drawing on the theories of Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Humanistic Psycotherapeutic counselling, creating change through the relationship - which in effect is therapy.
Initially training at Brighton University - Post Graduate Diploma in Humanistic Psycotherapeutic Counselling - I then trained at Ironmill College - Diploma in child therapy (8-18 yr olds). I have also completed courses on Transactional Analysis, Alcohol and Drug Addiction Therapy, Grief Therapy and Trauma and PTSD.
I am a BUPA registered therapist.
When things are tough, our emotional health and wellbeing may be affected – we might be left overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or angry, feeling low self-esteem or panic.
All of this can be difficult to put into words. You may be struggling to express how you feel, and this in turn can be both frightening and isolating.
This is where I believe that counselling can help. I am specifically trained to work face to face or online with adults and children, through supportive, non-judgemental and where needed creative therapy sessions, we work towards helping you to see your life more clearly.
I have worked 1-1 as a Life Coach for 5 years before training as a Counsellor. In addition to my private practice in Hove and Chailey, I work in the NGO/voluntary sector on addiction therapy one day a week.
Practice description
Clinic in Hove offers safe and comfortable rooms to meet in a shared practice; walking distance from the Hove train station and free parking at Tesco Church Road a 5 min walk away.
Clinic in Chailey is my own practice room, quiet, private and located in a garden room.
I am a BUPA registered therapist.
I am supervised by Dr Joe Hind, a very experienced practitioner and lecturer.
I bring creativity into my work, not just for children and young adults, but whereveer sessions feel 'stuck' or 'blocked'.
Clients can agree to a limited number of sessions or start with an 'open-ended' agreement, whichever, you are free to stop therapy at any time if you wish. Relationship is key, so if after a few sessions you feel I'm not the right therapist for you, I would hope to be able to refer you on or at least help you to find the right person.
My first session
I suggest clients make an initial contact via email or phone message, after which we could arrange to have a 10/15 minute phone conversation to see if we might be able to work together. This is as simple as looking at available appointment times and costs and I might ask you "what are you looking for in therapy" "have you had previous experience of therapy and was it good or bad" and it's a chance for you to hear my voice and ask questions.
If you wish to go ahead, we would arrange a first session (50 mins) where we would look at a 'contract' - there to keep you and I ethically safe - and in the first session, it's a chance to hear your story or concerns and to start to build a relationship - a getting to know each other.
