Practice description

Couples therapy, also known as marriage counseling or relationship therapy, is a form of psychotherapy that helps couples address challenges in their relationship. It provides a supportive environment where both partners can communicate openly, explore their feelings, and work through conflicts in a healthy and constructive way.

During couples therapy, I aim to  help both individuals gain insight into their relationship dynamics, uncover patterns of behavior, and identify underlying issues that may be contributing to struggles such as communication problems, trust issues, emotional distance, or conflict. I  guide the conversation, ensuring that both partners feel heard and understood while encouraging respectful dialogue and empathy.

The goals of couples therapy can vary depending on the couple's needs, but they typically include:

Improving communication and active listening skills.

Rebuilding trust and repairing emotional bonds.

Resolving conflicts in a more productive way.

Strengthening intimacy and emotional connection.

Navigating life transitions (e.g., marriage, parenthood, relocation) or stressors.

Couples therapy isn’t just for those experiencing major problems; many couples seek therapy to prevent future issues or to enhance their relationship and deepen their connection. Therapy offers tools, strategies, and insights to create a stronger, more fulfilling partnership, fostering mutual understanding and lasting happiness.

Through therapy, couples can develop healthier habits, build resilience, and create a lasting foundation for their relationship.

My first session

Each partner will have the chance to express their perspective on the issues they are facing in the relationship. I will listen closely, asking open-ended questions to help both partners articulate their feelings and understand the dynamics at play. I will also ask about the couple’s history, key events that may have influenced their relationship, and how they typically handle conflict.

I aim also help identify patterns of communication or behaviors that might be contributing to stress or disconnection, but the focus will not be on blame. Instead, it’s about fostering understanding and empathy for each other’s feelings and needs. The goal is to build a foundation of trust and openness.

Overall, the first session is about laying the groundwork for positive change, fostering mutual respect, and creating a space for healing and growth in the relationship.

About me and my therapy practice

Counselling is an open space to take a moment to pause and reflect. It is a regular time slot which you have for yourself with a counsellor to talk about anything which is causing you concern. Together we will explore your thoughts, emotions and make sense of what sometimes can feel like a huge mess. Psychodynamic counselling is a style of counselling I am trained in, which explores your past experiences and how they impact on your behaviour today.

Being in counselling is a commitment to yourself to face those difficult emotions and really get to understand your lifes choices and the impact.

I am an open-minded person who enjoys helping people through life’s challenges. I have previously worked in HR for many years and have a great understanding of the challenges work life can bring to the table. I have supported clients who have anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, relationship concerns, bipolar disorder, and low self-esteem.

I am qualified with a Â鶹ԭ´´ accredited Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling at Highgate Counselling Centre. I am trained in Couples Therapy via the Tavistock and also The Grove and also trained in Counselling For Depression.
