About me and my therapy practice
I am an accredited Person Centred Counsellor with additional training in EMDR and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
With over 30 years in health and social care, I have experience of bereavement (including baby loss), life transitions, managing life-limiting conditions, Cancer, Carers issues, Menopause and the life-long impact of Childhood Trauma.
I have been described as having a warm, down to earth and compassionate approach to my work. Being human too, my work allows me to draw on both professional and personal life experiences, including the challenges of parenthood and previously as an unpaid carer to someone with MND.
Practice description
There might be a specific goal you wish to work on, or something more general. At the start, we will work together focusing on the reasons you seek Counselling and plan a way forward. It is truly a collaborative approach.
I take a mind-body approach to Counselling. Taking a holistic approach can help you take charge of your symptoms such as an over active mind or overwhelming feelings of anxiety. I believe knowledge is power and I offer psychoeducation not as an expert but as a way of helping you understand the mind-body connection, to gain self-awareness and develop new coping strategies.
At the heart of our work is a trustworthy and caring relationship. I aim to offer an inclusive and neurodiverse affirming environment where you can safely express and be yourself without judgement. This may include creative ways of working including Therapeutic Photography.
It can be overwhelming searching for the right Counsellor: I would be happy to explain about the different modalities and approaches should that help. Please feel free to book in a free 15 minute telephone consultation without obligation to assist you in that search.
My first session
The first session is for you to get to know me and for us to make a plan for working together. It can be goal focused or something more general. This will be our contract which we can review regularly to make sure you are getting what you need from our work together.
For Walk and Talk Sessions, the first meeting will be online to discuss the format, any health issues and routes etc.
I describe myself as both trauma and resilience informed and will work with you to identify your existing strengths which I believe we all have. You may wish some initial tools, such as ways to manage anxiety or it could be an open space for you to explore what you may like to change or work on.
I believe the Person Centred approach to be an incredibly powerful and compassionate way of working towards lasting change and growth.
I aim to contact you within 48 hours of initial enquiry so please check your spam folder if you haven't received a response from me.
