About me and my therapy practice
The changing times we are living in seem to offer us less security, meaning, for many different reasons and in all sorts of ways, we could find ourselves placed under increasing pressure and faced with unreasonable expectations.
Life can suddenly be turned upside down by unexpected life altering events, such as a bereavement, unemployment or a relationship breakdown which you may not have the energy to deal with, feel less able to cope and may lead to impacting your relationships with family, peers and also work colleagues.
Counselling can help when we find ourselves faced with challenges, overwhelmed by feelings of distress, confusion and anxiety about past issues or finding it hard to make decisions in the present.
From my own experience I know how hard taking the first step to counselling is and the importance of finding someone you can trust, are comfortable with and feel able to share your deepest thoughts and feelings with. It's crucial you feel heard and understood, that you are able to perceive the therapist's genuine empathy and are assured that what you share remains confidential.
Practice description
I have many years experience of helping adults navigate the grief and bereavement process, walking alongside them as they adjust to a new way of being in a world which seems very different. Additionally, I have a robust understanding of the challenges and demands when faced with providing caring support for vulnerable, less able people.I work with clients who may feel depressed or be struggling with trauma as a result of bereavement or from experiencing sexual or domestic abuse. During our initial sessions we will explore the feelings, relationships and situations as you feel ready to meet them, working at a pace set by you. Together we will work towards a goal which you have identified as being achievable, you are the expert of your life and our time together will be led by you.
Alongside my private practice, I also volunteer as a counsellor and supervisor with our local branch of a national charity and have been privileged to be able to do that for 15 years. My personal experience has been of depression, anxiety, bereavement and relationship issues as well as a variety of other life challenges.
