About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified psychodynamic therapist who works in a client-led manner to support individuals and couples looking for deeper insight and long-lasting change. Whatever the hurt, experience has shown me that getting better starts when we feel safe enough to open up and connect.
It is my aim to provide a trusting and confidential space where you can share your story and, with help, make connections between past experiences and present difficulties to gain insight into your current situation.
I believe in learning by doing, so, in the last fifteen years, I took on a variety of supporting roles in local charities and community-based services, as well as in the NHS where I worked as a couple's therapist for depression in the Talking Therapies service.
In my private practice, I continue to have a strong interest in helping individuals and couples who may be feeling stuck, but are willing to understand more about their current situation and move forward.
I am a neurodiversity-affirming therapist and I find working with neurodivergent people and couples highly rewarding. If you or your relationships struggle because of ADHD diagnosis/presentation, I am here to help. By supporting you to gain a better understanding of your experiences and by modelling a compassion-based relationship with your ADHD diagnosis/presentation, I can help you address ADHD-specific difficulties, as well as generic relationship struggles that might make life harder than it should be.
Whatever issues you are facing, I hold the belief that, ultimately, we all need the space to be heard and seen as we make sense of what we are going through. Therefore, in our sessions, we will focus on you and your experiences as a whole, the past and the present, the conscious and unconscious elements of your presentation, and we will build a strong therapeutic relationship that aims to empower you and help you find yourself again.
Fees:
Individual counselling £55/session
Couples counselling: £75/session
Practice description
I run my face to face private practice from a welcoming and confidential space in Colchester town centre. I also have some limited availability for phone/videocall sessions.
My working style is non-directive and relationship-oriented, which means that the work we do is a collaborative effort, based on mutual trust. While I might occasionally ask questions and offer interpretations, my main role is to listen to you and support you in connecting the dots of your own story.
My first session
If you decide to try psychodynamic counselling with me, you will be offered an initial session to discuss what brings you/your couple to therapy and what your current therapeutic goals are. This first appointment is 50 minutes long and will give us a sense of what working together might be like for both of us. After this, you are invited to reflect on our meeting and then contact me to let me know if you want to carry on with regular sessions. If you choose to continue, we will be working on a weekly basis for as long as you need.
