About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced child and adolescent therapist and supervisor, working with young people, families, youth centres and schools.
I am passionate about helping young people to help themselves; and enabling those around them to create the best possible environment in which that can happen. Each young person is unique, and I tailor my skills to their needs using a flexible and compassionate approach. Most importantly, offering the young person time, space and complete acceptance - so that they are able to make sense of their feelings and develop their own coping strategies.
Working with the families and support services around the young person is also key to my work. I provide coaching for parents, carers and child-centric organisations. I have extensive experience of working with schools and youth centres, senior leadership teams, individual teachers and key workers, to ensure the young person and their families are fully supported. I also work with external services such as CAMHS, Social Services, Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language teams.
Practice description
I provide a safe, non judgemental and friendly space, enabling a young person to explore their thoughts and feelings; taking time to work through any challenges they may be facing.
In this process I work integratively, drawing upon my broad training skills as a qualified child and adolescent therapist and supervisor. Adapting and listening to the needs of the client, I may take elements from Cognitive behavioural therapy, Habit reversal therapy, Dialectical behaviour therapy, Play Therapy and Sand story therapy; allowing me to work creatively and intuitively to the needs of the young person.
Working with parents and carers I also offer a bespoke coaching programme. Whether it is a stand alone session or more structured, consistent support you are looking for; taking time to reflect and listen to the issues and concerns you may be facing, we discuss strategies and develop skills to best support your needs, together.
Lastly, I provide a five part parenting programme with my business partner. "The Chemistry of Parenting". Looking at the topics of verbal and non-verbal communication, self-regulation and boundary settings, as well as self care. This is delivered online, to parents and carers from the comfort of their own home; and has had very positive feedback.
My first session
Finding the right therapist is very important. I offer a free 15 minute initial phone call or zoom, to meet each other and ask any questions. This not only helps to see if we are the right fit for you and the young person's needs, it also enables me to assess if online counselling is appropriate for your needs.
