Trauma can show up in many different ways. It鈥檚 not always easy to recognise when you need support. You might be experiencing:
Anxiety or panic
Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
Feeling isolated or disconnected
Addictive behaviours
Difficulties in relationships
Mood swings or irritability
Work-related stress or burnout
Unexplained physical pain
If any of this sounds familiar, please know you鈥檙e not alone鈥攁nd you don鈥檛 have to face it alone either.
I understand trauma, not just professionally but personally. I know how hard it can be to reach out. That鈥檚 why I offer a warm, compassionate space where you can begin to feel safe, grounded, and more like yourself again.
Practice description
I work relationally, meaning that our connection and the therapeutic relationship are at the heart of the work. Healing happens through connection鈥攆eeling truly seen, heard, and understood.
As an Integrative Therapist, I tailor therapy to your unique needs. I draw on a range of approaches including:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) 鈥 a powerful and evidence-based therapy for trauma and PTSD
Therapeutic Arts 鈥 helpful for those who find it difficult to express their thoughts and feelings in words
These approaches can support you to process difficult experiences, ease emotional and physical pain, and make sense of what鈥檚 happened. They can help you feel more connected to yourself and others. And no鈥攜ou don鈥檛 need to be artistic to benefit from this way of working.
Every session is shaped around you. You can expect compassionate, relational, and personalised support that honours your story and helps you build a future that feels calm, peaceful, and free.

Hello my name is Helen Capanda nee Segal, and I have availability in the week and on Saturday mornings.
About me and my therapy practice
Helping Children, Teens, and Families Feel More Connected and Calm. When your child or teenager is struggling鈥攅motionally, socially, or at school鈥攊t can be heartbreaking. You may feel helpless, overwhelmed, or unsure how to support them. It can feel like you're trying everything, yet nothing seems to work. You鈥檙e worried about their future, and it's taking a toll on the whole family. You don鈥檛 have to do this alone.
I support children, teens, and families through therapy that is gentle, creative, and deeply attuned to each individual鈥檚 needs. I create a safe and supportive space where young people can express what鈥檚 going on beneath the surface鈥攐ften without needing to find the 鈥渞ight words.鈥
A Trusted & Experienced Therapist for Children and Teenagers
I'm a 麻豆原创 Accredited Integrative Therapist with over 25 years of experience working with young people鈥攆irst as an art teacher and now as a therapeutic counsellor working in private practice and as a school counsellor. For over three decades, the creative arts have been a core part of my life and work. I鈥檝e seen again and again how powerful art, play, and imagination can be in helping children and teens work through emotional and behavioural challenges.
Children often don鈥檛 have the words to express complex feelings like sadness, anger, anxiety, or fear. Through creative therapy and play-based approaches, I help them safely explore these feelings, reduce emotional distress, and learn healthy ways to cope.
Support for Challenges at Home and School
Many parents reach out to me when their child is:
Struggling at school or refusing to attend
Withdrawing socially or emotionally
Acting out at home or school
Anxious, tearful, or highly sensitive
Having trouble sleeping or concentrating
Experiencing grief, separation, or trauma
Showing signs of low self-esteem or self-harm
If any of this resonates, know that you're not alone鈥攁nd that support is available.
Practice description
A Relational, Personalised Approach
I work relationally and collaboratively鈥攚hich means that I focus on building strong, trusting connections with both children and their parents or carers. Therapy is never 鈥渙ne-size-fits-all.鈥 I adapt my approach to meet your child exactly where they are and support you as a family to reconnect and find your way through challenges together.
Sessions may involve talking, drawing, painting, sand-tray, play, music, clay and movement and the use of puppets, depending on your child鈥檚 needs. You don鈥檛 need to be artistic to benefit鈥攊t鈥檚 all about creative expression, not performance.
Over time, families often notice:
A calmer home environment
Improved emotional regulation
Stronger communication between parents and children
Tools and strategies that can be used long after therapy ends
There is hope. Things can get better.
