About me and my therapy practice

I qualified as an Art Psychotherapist in 2009 and am BAAT and . I have worked across varied settings including acute psychiatric wards, eating disorder units, palliative care and in the Young Adult Service. For the last 7 years I have  specialised in working with children and young people and their families and supervise those also do.

My original training was psychodynamic. I now work in an integrative way having enhanced my competence with further trainings covering family systems, narcissistic and domestic abuse, addictions, codependency, family work and play therapy.

I also work as supervisor for organisations supporting young people and their families involved in the penal system.

Please do request a phone call with me to discuss how I could support you and your family through a short or long term therapy intervention.

Practice description

I work from my practice studio in my garden so it is a very private and tranquil space for clients.

Sometimes words can be hard to find so as an art psychotherapist I offer a range of art/play materials and the opportunity to use them as a way into exploring sensitive issues.  Any artwork created during sessions is kept confidentially in a secure cabinet and given to clients at the end of our time together.

I work to build a trusting and safe environment through our relationship and the room/ art materials. In working with chidren I involve parents in the journey that we all go on together resulting in a positive outcome for all. I can also liase with schools or other agencies for a wrap around approach for the child.

For adults I provide a safe and contained space to bring any issues that need to be processed or addressed and we can go through them together in a safe and supportive way.

My first session

The first session is a time where we will meet and perhaps explore the initial reasons that you are seeking therapy at this time. It is also a time for you to see if you feel comfortable with me and if I am the right person for you to work with going forward. Starting therapy can feel like a big step so its important that it feels comfortable and safe to you. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions that you may have and see how I work. We can then decide together if I and my therapeutic approach will be helpful to you and if you would like to start working together.

I offer a free 15 min discovery phone call so we can talk through what your needs may be at this time.
