About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Chloe.

I’m a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist specialising in supporting children, young people, and parents.

Growing up can be challenging, and I’m here to help young people navigate life’s ups and downs. Whether they’re struggling with mental health, self-esteem, relationships, risky behaviours, or bereavement, I provide a safe and supportive space to explore their thoughts and feelings.

I’ve worked in schools, charities, special education, private education, and even criminal justice settings, supporting young people from all backgrounds. I’ve led wellbeing groups, young parent groups, and workshops on confidence, boundaries, and emotional resilience.

I also offer guidance for parents and caregivers, helping them use PACE (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy) to strengthen their relationships with their children.

Before training as a counsellor, I spent years leading young people on wilderness retreats across Europe, using nature as a space for reflection and personal growth. My academic background includes a degree in Therapeutic Communication with Children and Adolescents from Essex University, followed by a Master’s in Counselling.

Now, I run a private practice dedicated to supporting young people and parents through life’s challenges. If you’re looking for support, I’d love to help.

Practice description

I provide psychodynamic counselling in Colchester

Sessions are 50 minutes long every week.

My therapeutic offers are currently:

Individual Wilderness therapy - this is located in Dedham - at a therapy farm.

Or

One to one private therapy in the heart of Colchester town on North Hill.

I believe in the power of creative play techniques to facilitate healing and growth. My approach is rooted in understanding the unconscious processes that influence behaviour and emotions, providing a safe space for exploration and expression.

Approach:

I utilise a variety of creative play techniques, including art, storytelling, role-playing, and sandplay, to help children and young people communicate their thoughts and feelings in a non-verbal way. Through play I aim to uncover underlying conflicts, traumas, and emotions that may be impacting their well-being.

I believe that every child and young person is unique, with their own set of experiences and challenges. My approach is tailored to meet the individual needs of each client, fostering a trusting therapeutic relationship where they feel understood, supported, and empowered to explore their inner world

My first session

I always like to have a free chat with the parent or guardian who is referring the child prior to any work commencing.

After this, if I believe I can help, I will then suggest having an initial assessment with the child to ascertain how I can help them and if they feel they are ready for Counselling.

Induction sessions are normally very informal and include a lot of play to help the child feel at ease and comfortable with me. I provide a lot of sensory input to help the child regulate and calm their nervous system if I believe they may be nervous..
