About me and my therapy practice

Every person’s experience of life is unique. Every person is unique.

Whatever brings you to therapy, whatever you want to explore or want help with, our work will always start by establishing a caring, authentic and collaborative relationship in which you feel supported, cared for and listened to.

You may want support to soften current distress, or to better understand what brings personal meaning to your life. You may want to become better aware of what drives your current emotions, thoughts, feelings and behaviours, or understand how past experiences have influenced who you are today. By working together to raise your awareness of yourself my aim is that you not only feel seen, heard and supported, but that you feel better equipped to make positive personal choices and changes that are right for you.

There is no single best way of ‘doing’ therapy. Different clients need different things at different times. Because you are unique and know yourself better than anyone else, we will use a variety of therapeutic interventions blending them together in a complimentary way to suit your individual style, goals, needs and pace. My role is not to provide solutions but to help you find your answers in a confidential, non-judgemental, secure space.

Sometimes it can be difficult to attend sessions face to face. Since the Covid 19 pandemic the benefits of online and telephone therapy have become very apparent. Online and telephone counselling can be as effective as face-to-face counselling and offers the additional advantages of convenience, flexibility and accessibility.

Practice description

I am a fully qualified MÂ鶹ԭ´´ registered psychotherapeutic counsellor providing face-to-face counselling to individuals and couples (18+).  I see clients in central Exeter and off Clyst Road on the edge of Exeter near J30 M5, as well as online across the UK.

My extensive life experience, which includes living and working overseas in five different cultural environments, and my training as a humanistic integrative therapist at Iron Mill College in Exeter has reinforced my passionate belief in the uniqueness of every individual.

Our starting point for your therapy focusses on us building a meaningful, trusting and collaborative relationship, based on your individual needs and personal goals. By using carefully considered and mutually agreed interventions we will safely and confidentially explore your unique combination of emotions, feelings, behaviours, thoughts, experiences and bodily felt sense to help you become more aware of your ‘self’. ‘Self’ awareness allows and empowers you to make choices in line with whatever brings you meaning both now and in the future.

Alongside enhancing your awareness of who and why you are, we will also develop your own personalised self-care ‘tool kit’ of ideas, information and methods to give you confidence to cope with overwhelming or distressing emotions and feelings during and beyond therapy.

My humanistic, existentially focused way of working utilises aspects of Gestalt therapy, Transactional Analysis, Parts work, Somatic awareness, EMRD, Rewind therapy, Psycho-education and other creative interventions.

As a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists I adhere to their ethical framework. In line with GDPR and client confidentiality I am registered as a data controller at the Information Commissioners Office. I hold full professional liability insurance and an up-to-date enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate.
