About me and my therapy practice
Compassion underpins everything I do. By providing a safe, warm and secure space in which to hear your story and by offering unconditional positive regard then exploring issues together often brings resolution and healing.
I have over 5 years experience, working face-to-face and online. I am a qualified online counsellor serving clients via Zoom.
I offer a free, introductory, no obligation, 30 minute consultation to establish what you want, how we would work together and to answer any and all questions you may have about how I work or counselling in general.
I have worked with clients from 16 to 82 years old helping them with Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Stress, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Low Mood, Suicidal thoughts, Relationship and family Issues, Body Dysmorphia, Adverse Childhood Experiences, Emotional Abuse and Narcissistic relationships, Low self-esteem bullying, Lack of meaning, Racism and LGBTQ+ issues.
My Person Centred/Psychodynamic approach to counselling
Being Person Centred means that I respect your autonomy allowing you to bring whatever concerns you wish and at a pace you are comfortable with. I work to deeply empathise with your perspective and offer a warm, secure, confidential and safe environment within which to explore issues together. Compassionate, non-judgmental support I believe is the beating heart of therapy.
I integrate, where appropriate, a Psychodynamic approach. This helps demonstrate to us that current beliefs, patterns of behaviour and relating to others is often moulded by experiences from our past and that exploring/resolving those adverse experiences can offer deep insight and healing in the present.
Some CBT techniques are employed where negative self-talk or other unhelpful thinking styles are present.
Aditionally, an exploration of spirituality can be profoundly healing for some.
I cannot guarantee you will achieve all you desire. No-one can. But I guarantee you my utmost endeavour and profoundest commitment to your well-being.
Practice description
I see clients face-to-face at my practice in Littlehampton or online via Zoom.
Most therapists offer the '50 minute' hour which means 50 minutes of actual talk-time and 10 minutes for the therapist to prepare for the next client. My sessions consist of an hour of talk-time as people appreciate this and often there is so much to say in such a short time.
With the majority of my clients a typical session begins with a relaxing 2 minute guided breathing exercise/meditation in order to co-regulate our nervous systems before exploring the issues you bring to the table.
My first session
In the first session we will establish what personal issues are troubling you, what you may like to change about yourself and what limits you from thriving. You may feel a lack of fulfilment or meaning, anxiety or low motivation. You may have low self-esteem or suffer simply because of the state the world is in! The list of challenges we face can appear daunting.
Your story will be profoundly heard and I will explain how I work and how we can work together to achieve your goals. Any and all questions you may have can be answered so that you understand - with confidence - the way to move forward.
