About me and my therapy practice
Professional, high-quality online counselling and psychotherapy.
I take measures to ensure that the counselling I provide is tailored to my client's specific needs (known as 'contextual approach').
I place strong emphasis on the evidence-based factors that research shows make the biggest impact on client progress. These are known as 'Therapist Factors' (Wampold et al 2017).
To put it simply, whatever model we choose to approach therapy with, the biggest predictor of success from therapy is the therapist's ability to have: flexibility, openness, good interpersonal skills, trust, competence, focus, empathy, honesty, authenticity, warmth and communication skills.
As well as their ability to connect with clients from many backgrounds and facing a variety of issues (Ackerman& Hilsenroth, 2003; Hill & Castonguay, 2017; Wampold, Baldwin, Holtforth, & Imel, 2017).
These are the factors that I aim to uphold within my practice with every person I engage with, ensuring greater quality of the therapeutic relationship and greater progress for clients. With emphasis on this, I have seen (in research and personal experience) many clients from a range of backgrounds develop and grow.

Following on from therapist factors, therapeutic approaches can vary the the style, techniques and language of therapy to suit client needs. This will be tailored to your needs and your communication style based on a collaborative assessment. These approaches are listed below.
I have worked with clients from 9 to 90, facing a wide range of issues, developing specialist experience working with: families (adolescents and parents), neurodiversity, chronic illnesses, spirituality, trauma, bereavement, adverse childhood experiences, relational issues, masculinity, femininity, stress, anxiety and depression.
This has been with various agencies, charities, private businesses, local authorities and social care as well as private practice.
Practice description
You can contact me through the information provided on the directory. I cannot respond immediately, as I am away from devices during therapy sessions. I will aim to respond within 1 working day.
After initial consultation, I tend to begin all therapy in a Person-Centred manner, allowing time to build a rapport, have open and honest discussions and understand what challenges you’d like to work through.
From there, we can continue in this non-directive style, if that is what is needed. Or we can begin to explore further psychological treatments that may be useful to you - conducting assessments and treatment plans to suit. This can include a full psychological formulation if needed.
Treatments can include: PCT, CBT, MBCT, NET, ACT, Schema, Gestalt or Existential informed therapies or changes in mode such as video, phone, art, writing, role play, exposure and visualisation.
They will be discussed with you as they come up in discussion or assessment, and if you feel it is useful and insightful to you, we will utilise them. If you have any specific questions about a therapy approach, please let me know.
We’ll aim to set a time and day that best suits you, and maintain that schedule weekly, although some flexibility is possible with enough notice.
I typically work in 10 week cycles, with a review on the 9th week, where we will discuss how therapy is going, assess the progress made, and determine if/what further work needs to be done.
From here we can continue, alter our focus, evaluate any resources and materials that are useful and discuss options for referrals to complementary services if necessary.
Once you are satisfied with the progress made, and feel that therapy is no longer needed we will complete and I'll follow up with an optional check-in message 4-6 weeks later. You can always refer directly back to myself if needed.
Further details of our policy and procedure can be found on the therapy contract, of which you will have the opportunity to read before our first session.
