About me and my therapy practice
Welcome, my name is Debbie. I qualified as a Person-Centred Counsellor & Psychotherapist in 2020 from Aberdeen University.
During the past five years, I have developed my practice to be more integrative, utilising tools from different modalities. As a therapist, I prefer to work collaboratively and ask my clients if they have their preferences for how they would like to work, and of course, it's okay not to know; that is something we can explore together. As each person is unique, I will treat you as such.
The core of my practice is grounded in empathy, genuineness, non-judgmentalism, and creativity. I aim to create a space for my clients where they will feel welcomed, safe, and able to bring their whole identity into the session, which in turn will cultivate the conditions required for growth, personal development, and healing.
As well as my private practice I work part-time in the Violence Against Women and Girls sector and specialise in trauma-informed praxis. I work with a culturally diverse client base, which has prompted a self-exploration of my white privilege. I am dedicated to continuously educating myself, and I strive to build an anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive way of being with an intersectional feminist approach. I work with people over the age of 18, am an LGBTQ+ ally, and can offer concessional rates.
I take self-care seriously and work with my own therapist, engage in peer support, plus monthly clinical supervision in line with Â鶹Դ´ guidelines.
Out of working hours, I love art & design, architecture, listening to and playing music, practice yoga, and I am a very willing companion to my feline friend who (full disclosure) may appear during our sessions together. I welcome your pets into our sessions too.
I am based in Edinburgh and Dunfermline.
