About me and my therapy practice

I have over 15 years’ experience of working within mental health, substance use and social care settings. I work primarily with a psychodynamic approach which involves exploring how your early relational experiences may influence you unconsciously in the here and now, including how they might impact on your current relationships, feelings and patterns of behaviour. My initial training was in person centred practice, and I have completed further training in areas such as solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing and child and adolescent mental health which included elements of CBT and DBT. My overall approach is informed by these elements, depending on what issues you might need support with and your individual needs.

At the heart of my practice is building a compassionate relationship, trust and safety to explore your experiences and interpersonal relationships with others both in the past and present.

Through my own personal mindfulness practice, I am interested in how mindfulness can support therapy including nature and walk and talk approaches. My training has involved undertaking my own long-term therapy which has given me an appreciation of how challenging it can feel to take the first step and engage in the process of counselling.

My work experience has been varied, including working with anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, trauma, grief and loss. I previously worked within an LGBT+ organisation and a student wellbeing and disability service which included working with neurodiversity, gender dysphoria, sexuality, familial issues, bereavement, exam pressures, drug and alcohol use and eating disorders. I currently work for a substance use organisation where I work with issues such as drug, alcohol and prescription drug dependency and addiction, sexual health, including issues such as chemsex. I also undertake clinical work with a charitable organisation offering support to people affected by trauma and homelessness.
