I am a Â鶹Դ´ registered counsellor and psychotherapist offering face-to-face therapy in Ottery St Mary, Devon and/or online therapy anywhere you reside.
To keep therapy more affordable for all, sessions are priced at £45 p/h. A free 20-minute introductory phone call is available to help you decide if you feel we could work together.
Challenges in life face us all and may blinker our way ahead. Whatever might be troubling you – past, present, or future issues, I’m here to:
• Provide a safe, inclusive, comfortable, confidential space; somewhere your well-being is valued
• Build a trusting, warm psychotherapeutic relationship, in which to discover more about yourself
• Listen with empathy, openness, and non-judgement
• Respond with fairness, honesty, and sincerity in a down-to-earth manner
• Work collaboratively to find whichever approach is most helpful for you
• Walk alongside exploring your journey, giving you support along the way
• Sit with you through discomfort and uncertainty
• Provide you with coping tools to weather the toughest of storms
• Cultivate awareness, meaning, acceptance and hope
• Assist and encourage you to realize your potential, improve your self-esteem and confidence
• Help consider the choices available to you and whether you want change ….
Perhaps you’ve decided it’s time to put yourself first, to begin to say no more to the critical voice of others or your own inner critic. Could it be that you'd like to understand yourself more - your thoughts, emotions, sensations and actions - so you can settle old demons and have a clearer intention as to what you want from life? I hope we can work together therapeutically to ensure your aims are met.
Feel free to call or email me to discuss a way forward.
Warm wishes.
Practice description
Here at Goodwill Counselling, I can share my experience of being a fully qualified counsellor with a psychology degree (BA Hons). This means I am trained in counselling and psychotherapy skills, theory, and practice with the added benefit of having degree level knowledge regarding the human mind and behaviour.
As well as the approaches below, I am also influenced by several humanistic and integrative approaches including Internal Family Systems, Somatic therapy, DBT, EFT Tapping and Mindfulness based stress reduction therapy.
Experience from several different mental health care organisations and in my own practice, has meant I've encountered issues such as: low mood, feeling sad, health anxiety, ageing, death anxiety, panic attacks, ruminating, intrusive thoughts, suicidal thoughts, flashbacks, loss – of work, health, physical abilities, neonatal, relationship and pet, suicide, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syn-drome, pain management, transitions - empty nest syndrome, moving, retirement, eating ‘disorders’ – anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating. restricting, AFRID, trauma, c-PTSD (complex relational, fawning and co-dependency, trauma bonding), EUPD – emotional unstable personality disorder, bipolar disorder, inner child work, attachment styles, stress management, Narcissism and narcissistic behaviours – gaslighting, manipulation, coercive control, dreams and nightmares, addictions - substance, alcohol, exercise dependency, gambling, sex, porn, food, hoarding, phone, shop-lifting, gaming and effects on the partner, self-sabotage, procrastination, isolation and loneliness, dyslexia, parenting skills and challenges supporting children, working with shame, guilt, jealousy, resentment, forgiveness and regret etc.
All topped off by…oodles of lived experience - my own continuing mental health journey...
which put you, your rights, and your experience at the centre of the therapy.
My first session
At the initial contact, we can arrange a free, no obligation telephone or online conversation of 20 minutes to talk about your counselling needs and what therapy I can offer .
Your first meeting will be a ‘getting to know one another' session, giving you an opportunity to get a feel of what counselling will be like – of being listened to without judgment in a confidential space and to gain some understanding of how we might work together. A fundamental part of therapy is building a good working relationship together and it is important that your needs are being met.
It will be used to discuss why you are looking for therapy now and what aims you might have from the counselling process. I will ask you a few questions about yourself and provide you with some basic counselling information. This initial session provides a space for you to talk freely and ask any questions that you may have.
It will be at your pace and at your discretion of topics, taking time for you to settle. You are under no obligation to continue with the therapy after the first session and I will give you a few days to mull over your options.
I strongly believe that we humans are all interconnected, that we share many similarities, yet we are each radiantly unique - our work together will reflect all of this. I will draw on these principles and consult with you throughout as to the way you want to proceed with your therapy - because you know yourself best.
