About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m John, registered MÂ鶹Դ´ based in sunny Torbay.
Following many life-altering and profound changes within my own life, I decided to follow my true passion of psychology, philosophy, science, evolution, and spirituality.
Being friendly and relatable has always been one of my natural strengths and because of this I found myself working within the media most of my adult life. However, after becoming disenchanted with the superficial advertising world, I decided to retrain as a psychotherapist to help make a difference in the real world.
Everyone I know has struggled with aspects of their own mental health which is what drives me to help and educate. I understand that sometimes just a small change in our perception can make a huge difference. A lot of the time we can be own worst enemy. We tell ourselves that we are not good enough, not capable, not loveable. We get frustrated, angry, depressed, anxious, all wrapped up in a world that seems fake and hollow somehow. We allow others to bully us, walk all over us, and our dreams. Sometimes, we even lose our direction, purpose, or even become a shell of the person we once thought we were. We can feel lost, helpless, and alone, but not all is lost!
Practice description
You know all the details of your life, and I know the psychological skills and techniques. Working together, and at a pace that suits you, we will find a way through your own unique challenges. My aim is to make you feel heard, understood, validated, and empowered. Clients often say that they wished they had started therapy years ago when they realise how much care, warmth and understanding they feel. It's not all sorrow, shame, and darkness, counselling can also be friendly, fun, enthusiastic, and enlightening.
My first session
Once you have made initial contact, there will be a brief 20-minute no-cost, no obligation chat on the phone. Here you will have a chance to talk in complete confidence about your needs. This is so we can see how best to work together and what you want to achieve from therapy.
I offer long and short-term face-to-face work, also online or telephone counselling for adults only. Once a preferred method of working has been established we can book your first session.
You will then need to read and sign the ‘Client Contract’ which explains more about confidentiality, safety, and ethics etc.
