About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel constantly on edge, anxious, burnt out or disconnected?
Life can be hard, and the body remembers past pain and traumas that you may be trying to avoid. Perhaps you keep yourself busy and distracted or focus all your energy on helping other people but you've got to the stage when you're not sure who you are anymore and just want to feel better than this?
Whilst talking therapy can be a powerful and transformative way to understand your thoughts and emotions, it isn’t always enough to heal what is stored in your body, but embodied therapy can help.
What can I support you with?
As an embodied counsellor I can support you with managing anxiety, worry and stress and learning to feel safe in your body.
If you struggle with not feeling good enough, have experience of mental, physical or sexual abuse/violence, loss and grief or painful relationships, I can support you to process the feelings that you may be holding onto and learn how to live the life you want.
Why is embodied therapy different from talking therapy?
Often people think in order to get over something we have to go through it again by talking about it.
With embodied therapy this isn’t the case. Instead of reliving painful experiences through words we can create a supported experience by attending to what your body is feeling and learning what the body needs, in order to let go of the trauma and feel safe again.
That said, you may want to share the words and your mind may need to make meaning from your experiences and that’s ok too. With embodied counselling you can do both.
My aim is to support you to live your life whole heartedly. This means; being in the present, really being connected to who you're with, your surroundings and the life you are living.
Through counselling I will offer this to you by being there for you, really listening and supporting you to work towards whole heartedly living your own life, in the way that feels right for you.
Practice description
I'm an Integrative Embodied Counsellor and Coach experienced in supporting clients to develop the flow of communication between their mind, body and soul. What that means is I work holistically to support you to understand yourself and feel more connected to who you truly are. I specialise in helping clients to develop self esteem and self compassion after difficult childhoods or past events.
Working in an embodied way is about stopping and paying attention to how your body is responding to everyday life as well as past experiences.
• Perhaps you've noticed that whenever you have to go to the shops your heart beats faster and your breath gets shallow?
• Or when you're going to be in a big group of people your mouth feels dry and you feel jumpy or on edge?
• Or perhaps you've noticed that you feel really drained and zoned out when people are shouting or in disagreement?
If this is the case you may not like the thought of paying attention to your body and that's a perfectly normal response. But embodied therapy can help you to start to manage the uncomfortable feelings so that you don't have to stop doing the things you want to.
You will learn how to make links between your experiences and your bodily response, which will help you to start to understand all those uncomfortable sensations in the body and how to support yourself through them.
Just like traditional talking therapy, embodied therapy is about going inward to find out more. But the beauty of embodied therapy is that we are not only drawing on the wisdom of our minds but also the innate understanding of our body. When we put these pieces together this often leads to a more soulful connection and understanding of life and what it means to be you.
I understand that everyone experiences life differently so I can incorporate various activities into sessions including:
- movement
- mindfulness
- meditation
- breathwork
- visual & creative activities
My first session
In order to begin healing you first need to feel safe but trust can be hard if your experiences have left you feeling out of control and afraid. Our first few sessions will be about establishing a sense of safety together and learning what helps you to feel safer.
You will learn techniques to:
• Calm anxiety
• Self soothe
• Find safety
• Come back from disconnection & dissociation
• Build a sense of self control
• Develop self trust
• Name feelings
• Feel feelings
• Release feelings
You will understand your anxiety and trauma from the inside out.
Understanding the why behind your thoughts & feelings can lead to developing self compassion as you really start to understand how life and what you have lived through has an impact on you even perhaps why it may have left you feeling not good enough or doubting yourself. You can use this knowledge to support yourself to make decisions moving forward that are based on what really feels right for you, to support yourself through life ,not just for the hard times but to really adapt to challenges and to thrive.

My practice is called 'heartspace' because for me, whether I'm working with you through counselling or coaching, 1:1 or as part of a group; it's all about connecting with you from a heart felt place, being fully present, really listening and supporting you to move from your heartbreak to your heartspace.
