About me and my therapy practice
Hi I'm Rachel. If you have arrived here looking for support, I'm assuming that you or maybe someone close is struggling at present. I'm sorry if this is the case but also pleased that you are reaching out. It takes courage to face the reality that whatever you have tried to change or get over is still troubling you and maybe therapeutic support is what you need. I know this because I've been there and that very difficult time in my life, years on, lead me to now help others in a role I see as a privilege, and one I cherish and am passionate about.
As an experienced Psychosynthesis Counsellor, I help you connect the dots between past and present. Sometimes things from our past- whether that be a disruptive or traumatic childhood, school bullying or even experiences we thought we'd put behind us- can cast a long shadow. We'll gently explore how these experiences might be affecting your current life, whether it's at home, at work or just within yourself. My role isn't to tell you what to do, but to help you uncover the answers that are already within you.
Practice description
We'll look at old 'coping strategies' you might be using, and see if they're still serving you well. Sometimes what helped us survive in the past isn't so helpful anymore. Maybe these strategies have reached a 'sell by date', becoming irrelevant or even detrimental to your well-being. Instead, we'll explore these strategies, understand where they came from and examine the emotions connected to them, and empower you to choose different responses in the present moment.
I offer a 20 minutes ( free of charge ) phone or zoom meeting as an initial introduction. This helps me to understand a little about why you are considering counselling and it is an opportunity for you to get a sense of me and how I work.
I understand it's a daunting process when looking for a counsellor and I will try to answer any questions you may have.
My first session
Your first session is the assessment session. I will be asking various questions about past history, up to present day. My hope is that I am able to create a warm space that puts you at ease.
I work online and also work in person - when in London I work from The Psychosynthesis Trust in London Bridge and I also practice from a therapy room in my home in Northamptonshire. I find this suits many clients who wish to avoid a more clinical setting.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and are on a weekly basis, at an agreed day and time. After we have completed 6 sessions I like to review our work together to see how things are going.
I offer long term or short term therapy. Some people find it useful to have weekly therapy as continual support, but for others therapy isn't a forever thing; often a focused number of sessions (12-20) can be enough to get you back on track, feeling clearer, more compassionate towards yourself, and ready to move forward.
