About me and my therapy practice
Prior to qualifying as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I completed my masters in psychology specialising in anxiety.
I take a practical, evidence-based approach to helping clients understand their anxiety within the context of their personality, environment, and lifestyle. By gaining this deeper insight, we can then focus on developing effective strategies to manage anxiety and cultivate a more balanced, fulfilling life.
I do not work in a traditional framework of therapy insisting on a long term commitment. Neither does there need to be a weekly commitment as I understand financial and time constraints. If I feel a consistent initial 6 week period would be helpful I will let you know and we will discuss but I will always consider what would work best for you.
"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." John Muir
I am also a trained nature therapist and Forest Bathing guide.
Shinrin-Yoku is a Japanese word which translates as 'Forest shower' or 'Forest Bath.' It refers to an experience in nature which is totally immersive, so using all of our senses to connect with nature. Forest bathing was developed in response to major health and stress problems within the urban Japanese population.
In our current busy lifestyles, our nervous systems can be inconstant stand by, triggering our survival responses. Now, more than ever in addition to talking therapy, we need physical tools to heal and nature is a powerful healer.
Forest Bathing has been shown to lower stress hormones adrenalin and cortisol, regulate breathing and decrease insomnia and blood pressure. Using psychometric testing, anxiety, depression, anger, fatigue and confusion were also reduced.
Through guided activities, a forest bathing session is an excellent tool for psychological relaxation and to address any anxiety issues.
