About me and my therapy practice

Hello, thank you for your courage in taking a step towards resolving whatever brings you here today.

As a Counsellor and Coach, I work with clients to explore present and past experiences and feelings. Sessions together provide a non-judgemental, supportive space, where you can to explore what is going on for you. My aim is to foster a positive and honest therapeutic relationship, allowing us to work together to cultivate awareness of patterns and identify a positive way forward. Whether you are experiencing family or relationship issues, bereavement or loss, or stress at home or work, counselling is an effective way of dealing with personal problems, as well as supporting well-being.

The therapist-client relationship is fundamental to the effectiveness of therapy sessions, so each session is designed to be supportive, collaborative, non-judgemental and to move at the pace that feels right for you.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I work across a broad range of therapeutic approaches to ensure our sessions support the unique needs of my clients.   You can read more about these approaches in the 'Practice Description' section below.

I work with clients with eating disorders, body dysmorphia, self-esteem and self-worth issues, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, loss and addiction.

Now 37 years old, I have experienced overcoming eating disorders, navigating anxiety, depression and low-self worth in professional work environments. My personal experience has taught me that exploring the roots of our development of self-image and self-worth can be totally transformational in releasing us from the grasp of unhelpful thought patterns. I have experienced trial and error in finding balance and making choices which support my well-being and healing. I share this because I have a deep understanding that personal healing is ongoing and I am able to relate to the challenges of others whilst recognising that no two experiences are the same.

Practice description

When working together you can expect a non-judgemental and compassionate space.  You will have my complete attention, where I will listen fully to you. I want to hear about your experiences and build trust in order for you to feel that you can share emotions, feelings and memories without holding back. This unconditional and positive therapeutic relationship enables us to do reparative work together and make changes.

I’ve been trained in integrative counselling therapy and coaching.  My integrative approach to therapy enables me to draw upon a range of approaches, reflecting your individual needs and wants. I incorporate elements of:

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy - exploring how our past experiences shape our thoughts, feelings and behaviours, often unconsciously

Person-Centred Therapy - empowering you to make choices, harnessing an inbuilt drive towards fulfilment

Transactional Analysis - cultivating awareness of our adult-parent-child states in order to better understand how we relate to ourselves and others

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - cultivating an awareness of unhelpful thought patterns and exploring alternatives in order to feel more in the drivers seat with behaviours and emotions.

Existential Therapy - Exploring and having more clarity about what gives life meaning and purpose for you

As a trained coaching techniques can be valuable in offering insight into motivations and choices.  Drawing on all of the approaches above can help move away from struggles and uncertainty.

A a trained coach, we can also explore coaching techniques to support transformation and change.  This is very much entwined with therapeutic techniques, taking an in depth look at where you are now, compared to where you want to be.

I have experience, working with individuals with eating disorders, body dysmorphia, self-esteem and self-worth issues, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, loss and more.

My first session

I know that talking to an unknown professional can feel scary at first.  Building trust in our sessions is of great importance and you will likely find me to be welcoming, kind, empathetic and attentive.  In our initial session I will explore your needs and expectations.  We can talk about your previous experiences with therapy if that feels relevant and what worked and what didn't.  I will explain the counselling process and confidentiality.

I recognise that it takes time to develop trust and know if a therapeutic relationship feels that it will work for you.  I don't ask clients to commit to a certain number of sessions.  Instead, I check in regularly with how you are feeling and whether the sessions feel useful or you.
