Availability
I currently work Monday-Friday, but try to arrange my hours around client availability, as finding therapy that fits in with with a busy daily life can be difficult. I currently have some availability and recommend contacting me via email to schedule a time that is mutually convenient. I work remotely.
About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Helen. My goal in our counseling sessions is to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore the experiences and challenges that have shaped your values, behaviors, and overall life journey. Together, we’ll uncover how these past experiences influence you today and work through any obstacles that may be holding you back from feeling at ease with yourself and reaching your full potential.
Life’s struggles can profoundly shape how we see ourselves and how we engage with the world around us. At times, these struggles can feel so overwhelming that we find ourselves acting in ways that don’t align with our true selves, values, or emotions. Understanding why we engage in patterns that don’t serve us can be difficult, but it’s an important step toward healing and self-acceptance.
I believe there’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to counseling. Each person’s journey is unique, and you are the expert in your own life story. My role is to help you gain self-awareness and understand how trauma, adversity, and life challenges have shaped your sense of self. Through our work together, we’ll foster meaningful change, growth, and a renewed sense of possibility.
I work with a range of issues, but I have particular experience supporting individuals through suicide bereavement, domestic abuse, and childhood trauma. I also help clients navigate relationship challenges and existential crises. No matter what you're facing, you don’t have to go through it alone—I’m here to support you.
Practice description
MY APPROACH I am a Person-Centred counsellor, this means that within my practice, I don’t direct your process but instead, work collaboratively with you to find a path forward that aligns with who you are and who you want to become. This approach is reflective of your value system, your goals, and what feels comfortable for you. I believe that we react to our experiences as a whole organism, this means physically and psychologically. and the latest developments in neuroscience support this perspective. Neuroscience helps explain why we sometimes feel out of control regarding our feelings and behaviours. It sheds light on default behavioural patterns that may have been initially helpful for our survival but are now hindering our ability to progress in life. I integrate an understanding of how the brain works into my counselling sessions to help you comprehend what might be happening on both a physiological and emotional level. This understanding can often provide insight into why we sometimes feel we are not ‘in control’ and what steps we can take to regain control of our emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. I look forward to supporting you on your journey to self-discovery and growth.
My first session
Our first session is really about getting to know each other a little and establishing whether we feel that we are able to work together. I always complete an assessment with my client's, this helps confirm what has brought them to therapy, what their expectations, understanding of therapy and goals might be. I feel that working through an assessment assists us both in establishing whether we would be a 'good fit', as I firmly believe that it is our ability to develop a good working relationship, that will determine its outcome.
