About me and my therapy practice
My mantra is: "There's no such thing as WRONG feelings."
I create a tailor-made solution for clients struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, family issues, low self-esteem and trauma.
We will use our time together to take a closer look at these issues and create an individualised plan for addressing them in a way that leaves you calmer and in greater control of your emotions.
My clients generally experience an improvement in symptoms within 6-12 sessions.
Although it may now feel it right now, I believe that you are the expert on you. You may have lost sight of what you want and need due to external pressures so we will work together to re-acquaint you with the real you.
I work as flexibly as possible around your availability. Because I understand the demands of other commitments, I don't expect you to commit to the same time or day every week. Nor do I expect you to commit to a specific type (i.e. online or in-person) or frequency of sessions. Many of my clients attend in person but also request the occasional online session and I support clients to end counselling whenever they feel ready.
Although I don't offer concessionary rates, I am more than happy to offer flexibility around frequency and timing of sessions which is why I'm available until 6.30pm.
All individual sessions are a full 60 minutes at a cost of £60.
Couples counselling is £85 for a one-hour session.
Practice description
I work from an accessible downstairs room in a peaceful, private and rural setting** which provides the right environment for you to slow down your thoughts sufficiently to be able to explore their origin.
Modern living demands that we spend a lot of time in 'doing' mode. So much of our time is spent finding solutions to problems, juggling multiple demands on our time and energy. We never quite get to the bottom of that 'to do ' list before other things are added, leaving us feeling emotionally overwhelmed and physically exhausted.
Spending such a lot of time in that cognitive space means that we neglect our emotional state, until it ends up screaming at us from the inside.
As soon as we find ourselves in that emotionally heightened state, we have lost the ability to regulate anything; it all feels too much and we either end up exploding to relieve the tension or forcing ourselves into silencing ourselves because 'stuff' needs doing.
Unfortunately, suppressed feelings don't disappear; they have a habit of lying in wait to reveal themselves, often at a time and in a way that we can't control, leaving us feeling terrible guilt for how we've behaved or the hurtful things we've said.
And that's not healthy for us or our loved ones.
If any of this strikes a chord with you, please get in touch and we can start that process of discovery together.
** N.B. The rural location of my Practice means that it's not on a public transport route and is only accessible by car.
My first session
I recognise that starting counselling is a big step and one in which you will want to be sure that you have chosen the right person to share your very personal struggles with.
We'll start by exploring - as compassionately as possible - what's going on for you right now, gently dismantling it so that we can better understand it.
We'll then move to interpreting what it's telling you so that we can start to develop a toolkit that, over time, will result in you being able to meet your needs in a healthy, peaceful and productive way.
I appreciate that this process is a deeply personal one which is why I don't adopt a 'one-size-fits-all' approach to our work together.
To develop that bespoke approach, I need to develop an understanding of what's going on for you and the context in which it's happening, which is why I suggest that you commit to a minimum of six sessions.
If this strikes a chord with you and you'd like to make a first step towards your healing, I offer a free, no obligation 15-minute telephone chat to see if the way I work is what you're looking for. Please text me on 07496 356416 to arrange.
