About me and my therapy practice
Time for you.
Regular dedicated space to talk.
To express what you need.
To be heard.
To work things through.
Together.
To feel content and to improve things in your life, you often need to go back to look at the reasons you feel stuck, or recognise that some healing needs to take place first, to get in touch with your inner clarity and strength, which may currently feel diminished.
Throughout life, situations change, experiences happen, and you can find yourself feeling differently, unhappy, stressed, anxious, emotional or behaviours easily triggered. It might be difficult to acknowledge or articulate specifically, but you know you don’t feel right. Not yourself.
Your capacity and options at points in life can be challenging. You may think that others seem to cope better and that you should be okay as nothing major has happened. Or maybe it has. Maybe a combination and accumulation of things have happened, and it has started to have an impact on you, whether consciously or unconsciously.
I provide a non-judgemental space, to discuss your experience(s), to help you to navigate your particular situation, and provide you with support through any painful or seemingly scary aspects. Perhaps these are particular events, on-going stress, toxic environments, difficult or changing relationships, a traumatic situation, loss, ageing, illness, regrets, loneliness, a sense of ongoing failure or not being good enough? Everyone is different.
Growing up in your unique environment and the experiences you have encountered along the way will have contributed to who you are today. And it’s okay to admit you don’t feel okay and seek support to work through this.
If you haven’t been easily accepted, unconditionally valued or felt loved, perhaps from a young age, you may have had to keep adapting in order to get the connection with others which made you feel safe, or have a sense of belonging.
I want to get to know you. To connect with your authentic self. So you can live a more fulfilled life.
Practice description
This non-judgemental, therapautic, safe space is for you to talk freely about topics you may not have discussed with people before, or been able to process previously, which may be keeping you stuck in coping patterns and behaviours that are no longer serving you, or with new symptoms that present themselves.
I work with each individual uniquely, and apply my years of training relevantly as required. My website provides further details of my training, and on-going professional development, but my core approaches are:
Psychodynamic counselling - a talking therapy that can help you understand what you’re feeling, why you respond or behave in certain ways, and how this affects your relationships. It can enable you to get to the root of the problem, for long lasting change. What happens in our early years can be a blueprint throughout our life, dynamics of which we take into future relationships. One of the key ideas behind psychodynamic therapy is that when we experience something painful in our lives we might try to [consciously or unconsciously] ignore it, push it away, avoid it, cover it up and create defences, simply as a coping mechanism. However past experiences can continue to affect our behaviour, how we feel, and contribute to who we are, years later, and even have an impact on our health.
Person Centred counselling - particularly with children and young people, looking at experience(s) through their perspective, in their world, helping them to actualise their full potential, and create a confident sense of self.
Life Coaching - helps you to achieve personal goals, transitions, developments and to manage (professional or personal) projects. Identifying what obstacles maybe preventing you to achieve this, and create a plan of actions to move you toward your desired outcomes, bit by bit.
I work with children aged 9 years upward.
I also deliver Mindfulness training within schools, and have a passion for providing tools and resources to benefit developing individuals.
