About me and my therapy practice

***Proud to have received the award for Best Emerging 1:1 Counsellor (North Leicestershire) through the GHP Mental Health Awards 2024!***

Do you want to blossom into the best version of yourself? Are you feeling stuck and want to find a way to move forward with your life?

If that sounds like you, I understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help, but I am here to support you through your journey. Counselling really can transform your life, so well done for taking the first step!

Within our work together, you will always be the expert of your own life. By offering you warmth and compassion, sessions with me will provide you with a safe space to process and explore your feelings, at a pace that you feel comfortable with. As we build a therapeutic connection, I will act as a 'sounding board' for you to communicate your feelings and emotions into the room, with no fear of judgement, criticism or bias.

The main aim of our work will be to empower you to develop a deeper level of self-awareness, and to improve your self-esteem. Therapy should help you get back to feeling like you again, or even better - an improved version of you with new boundaries, more resilience and clarity on what you want from life!

I have worked with people from all walks of life, many of whom are suffering from depression or anxiety, or who have extremely low self-esteem. I also support people struggling with workplace stress, empowering them to build resilience and establish a better work-life balance. Many of my clients have been on the Autistic Spectrum and/or have been diagnosed with ADHD.

I have recently completed CPD in Infant and Baby Loss, which included Pregnancy and Infant Loss Specialist, Rainbow Baby Specialist and Infertility Specialist modules (Foundation for Infant Loss). I have also completed training in Self-Harm and Suicide Awareness and Prevention (Eastleigh College).

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on info@emmamahilcounselling.com.

My experience includes working with the following:

  • Anxiety
  • Social Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Workplace Stress
  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Relationship conflict/breakdowns
  • Low self-esteem
  • Self-harm
  • Pregnancy related issues
  • Gender identity
  • Family conflict

Sessions are led completely by you; you set the agenda and direct the conversation. I will offer gentle encouragement for you to reflect on your feelings along the way, in a non-judgemental manner. I will help you to establish a deeper sense of self-awareness and to encourage alignment within yourself; a feeling of inner peace, confidence and contentment.

Sessions are usually offered weekly or fortnightly, depending on your preference. The number of sessions is unlimited, but we will review these regularly to ensure you feel that you are continuously benefitting from our work together. If you feel that you wish to end therapy, there is no obligation to continue. However, it's important that we talk through this together to ensure you end therapy safely.

I offer face to face sessions in both the LE3 and LE4 areas of Leicester. I also offer remote sessions (either phone or video call).

My first session

I offer an initial 20 minute introduction via phone or video call, which is free of charge. This will provide an opportunity for us to ensure that we both feel comfortable to work with each other, and for you to ask any questions about therapy or the processes involved.

In your first session, we will go through an initial assessment, to identify your therapy goals and your current coping mechanisms. There will also be opportunity for you to share information which may be relevant to your therapy, and may help you to think about a good starting point for your sessions.

After this initial assessment, your first session will also include a Working Agreement, to help establish the expectations and boundaries of our therapeutic work together.

If you don't feel I am the right Counsellor for you, there is no obligation to continue working with me, as it's very important that you feel comfortable enough to be open with your therapist, otherwise the therapy may not be beneficial.
