About me and my therapy practice

I'm a psychotherapeutic counsellor, working in-person with clients in Bristol and online with clients across the UK.  Whether you are unsure of the reasons for your distress, or you have a particular issue you'd like support with, I can offer an empathic, non-judgmental and creative space for you to explore your experiences.  I appreciate it can be difficult to find a counsellor who feels best suited to your needs, so in addition to the information below, I offer a free 15 min phone call where you can find out more and see whether we might be a good fit.  Just drop me a line at counselling@tillyline.co.uk or contact me via my website www.tillyline.co.uk.

I can provide support relating to a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, grief, and low self-esteem.  I specialise in relationship and work-related concerns and have experience of working with the following:

  • Sexuality and relationship preferences.
  • Relationship conflict with partners, family members or friends.
  • Experiences of discrimination, internalised homophobia and shame.
  • Experiences of betrayal.
  • Feelings around commitment, including having children, living with others, or marriage/a civil partnership.
  • Deciding whether to stay or end a romantic relationship.
  • Incidents of trauma in the workplace, via bullying, harassment, discrimination, or being made redundant.
  • Emotional and physical symptoms of burn-out.
  • Exploring work-related values and goals and how these relate to other areas such as health, family, and leisure.

I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and welcome all forms of relationship.

Practice description

As an integrative counsellor, I can draw on a range of psychotherapeutic theories and tools to help you explore your feelings, relationships, and choices, in a way that best supports your individual needs:

Relational Psychotherapy: Relationships are fundamental to our well-being.  To help you explore your relationships, I draw on Psychodynamic and Gestalt therapies.  Both approaches focus on exploring the roots of our feelings and behaviours towards others and ourselves.

Narrative Therapy: We are the experts on our own lives, yet we are all affected by the people and external environments in which we live.  Therefore, the stories we develop about ourselves, and carry with us, are not about us alone.  This empowering approach provides opportunities for re-authoring your stories, if you wish to.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): When we're struggling with difficult thoughts and feelings, ACT can provide ways to build our ‘Psychological Flexibility’ and ways of coping.  In doing so, we can live more mindfully, gain an understanding of personal values, and experience a greater sense of fulfilment.

Together these approaches also provide room for creativity in our work, such as drawing and writing, if this feels helpful.  I provide materials in the therapy room for you to use as you wish.

My training and qualifications include:

UWE Bristol – July 2023 – MA Counselling and Psychotherapy

University of Cardiff – June 2022 – Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Part 1

UWE Bristol – June 2012 – PG Diploma Careers guidance

UWE Bristol – Jan 2008 – PhD ‘The Attitudes of Young People Towards Climate Change’
