About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Alan, and I have spent over a decade working with children and young people aged 12 to 25. My passion lies in providing a safe and nurturing environment where young people can explore their feelings, overcome challenges, and develop resilience. With a deep understanding of the unique pressures and issues faced by this age group, I am committed to supporting their mental health and well-being.
My approach to counselling is collaborative and client-centred, focusing on building a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust and empathy. I believe in empowering young people to take an active role in their own healing process. By fostering a supportive and non-judgmental environment, I encourage my clients to express themselves openly and work towards their personal goals. Whether dealing with everyday challenges or more complex issues, I am here to support and guide them on their journey to mental wellness.
I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Counselling and have completed extensive training in child and adolescent mental health. My qualifications are complemented by further training in various therapeutic modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working in a variety of settings, including schools, community centres, and private practice. This has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the educational and social factors that can impact a young person's mental health.
In addition to my professional qualifications, I have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, ensuring that I am fully vetted to work with children and young people.
Practice description
When you come for counselling with me , you can expect a safe and welcoming environment where you can talk freely about anything that's on your mind. This will be a non-judgmental space, meaning you can share your thoughts and feelings without worrying about being judged.
Making the decision to come to counselling can be daunting, particularly for the first time. To help ease any apprehensions, we can arrange for an initial phone call to discuss how we might work together and answer any of your questions. This can help you feel more comfortable and prepared for the process.
Together, we will set goals based on what you feel you need and want from counselling. This is your time, so it's all about focusing on your needs and aspirations. Whether you're dealing with stress, anxiety, or any other issue, we will work together to find ways to help you feel better and reach your goals.
Our sessions will be relaxed and friendly, aimed at making you feel comfortable and supported. You are encouraged to express yourself openly, and I will listen attentively. Remember, counselling is here to help you navigate your feelings and find solutions in a supportive and understanding environment.
My first session
Your first counselling session will last 50 minutes and will take place in a private space, free from any distractions. This ensures a calm and confidential environment where you can feel at ease.
Introduction and Getting to Know Each Other
The first session is an opportunity for us to start getting to know each other. You will have the chance to share what has brought you to counselling, whether it's stress, anxiety, or another issue. We will begin to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and supportive space.
Setting Goals
Together, we will set some goals based on what you want to achieve from counselling. This is your time, so it's all about focusing on your needs and aspirations. We'll discuss what you hope to gain from our sessions and outline a plan to help you reach those goals.
Understanding My Approach
I will take some time to explain how I work as a counsellor and what you can expect from our sessions. This includes my methods, techniques, and the overall approach I use to support you in your journey.
Opportunity for Questions
You are welcome to ask any questions you may have about the counselling process. This is your chance to clarify anything you're unsure about and to start to get a feel if counselling is right for you at this time.
Creating a Comfortable Environment
Our sessions will be relaxed and friendly, aimed at making you feel comfortable and supported. You are encouraged to express yourself openly, and I will listen attentively. Remember, counselling is here to help you navigate your feelings and find solutions in a supportive and understanding environment.
I look forward to supporting you on this journey and helping you achieve your goals.

About me and my therapy practice
My own journey as a person-centred counsellor is a testament to the transformative power of compassion, creativity, and resilience. My life experiences have moulded me into a counsellor who walks alongside clients, offering unwavering support as they navigate the complexities and challenges of their own lives. I am committed to continuing this journey, learning, growing, and evolving alongside my clients, and helping them discover the boundless possibilities that lie within them. For me, counselling is not just a profession; it's a lifelong calling to re-discover hope, empowerment, and transformation for those clients I have the privilege to work with.
I view therapy as a dynamic journey of self-discovery and growth, closely collaborating with clients, exploring possibilities, navigating challenges, and tapping into their strengths. Together, we create a secure, nurturing space where clients find their voice, rebuild self-worth, and embark on their unique path to their best life.
Practice description
I view therapy as a dynamic and ongoing process, not as a destination but as a journey of self-discovery and growth. I collaborate with my clients to explore possibilities, navigate challenges, and tap into their innate strengths. Together, we create a safe and nurturing space where clients can find their voice, rebuild their sense of self-worth, and embrace their unique journey towards living their best life. One of my distinct strengths is infusing creativity into my practice. I firmly believe that creativity opens pathways to healing and growth. Whether through art, storytelling, or mindfulness, I encourage clients to explore their inner worlds, fostering self-expression and empowering them to discover their resources and resilience.
As I embraced the role of counsellor, I encountered clients from diverse backgrounds, each carrying their unique burdens, from anxiety and depression to trauma and loss. Our work validated their stories, facilitating a shared exploration of their pain and, ultimately, fostering a recognition of their own resilience.
