About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I am Sophie, an integrative Therapist & Coach. I appreciate that googling therapists can be a big step - perhaps we can take the next step together.

Whether you are at a difficult crossroads, experiencing loss, exploring identity, navigating family, friends or relationships…or any of the other many, many reasons that might lead us to say ‘’I’m struggling’; I hope I can help.

There’s no getting away from the hardships and messiness that is life, however, there are ways to make this a little easier, and talking to a professional is one of them. I also believe that you don’t have to be sad to come to therapy! Sometimes having therapeutic support to accelerate excitement, joy and possibility is just as healing.

I work integratively, and collaboratively, which means that all sessions are tailored for and with you; I blend a range of therapeutic approaches depending on what you would benefit most from that day. These include, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and CBT. I work with the belief that the client is the expert, and my role is to facilitate the discovery of insights and learnings that can allow self-compassion and positive acceptance.

I’m not the kind of practitioner that just listens and nods; in our sessions you can expect compassion, curiosity, creativity and challenge.

This often involves us journeying through your experiences, relationships and beliefs to better understand what has been, and to consider what could be. Together we will also explore our relational dynamic - as practitioner & client - providing an opportunity to practice how you might connect and communicate beyond the therapy room.

I am known for my warm, deeply empathetic and grounded approach.

Practice description

I offer three different approaches:

THERAPY

A judgement-free space for us to navigate through your - past and current - thoughts, feelings, behaviours, beliefs, patterns and experiences; with the intention to understand and evolve your most fulfilled self.

COACHING

A more goal-orientated approach, focusing on the ‘here and now’, co-creating strategies and aspirations to enhance your life; career; relationships, and beyond.

A BLEND OF BOTH THERAPY & COACHING

A unique pathway between the two which involves 1) identifying how and where you are currently being held back, and processing and repairing this as necessary (therapy); and 2) creating practical steps to strengthen, advance and fulfil your hopes for yourself (coaching).

–

I currently work online, and ask that you are able to meet in a quiet, private space where you won’t be disturbed.

> Sessions are 50 minutes and are usually held weekly, at the same time each week.

> I offer both short-term and open-ended therapy.

> I also provide a ‘Power Hour’ (50 minute) if you are looking for one-off or ad-hoc sessions; this tends to work best for coaching.

> I appreciate how hard it can be to get to therapy when you have young children, and so am happy for ‘babies in arms’ to be brought along to your session should you feel this would suit you.

My first session

Ahead of booking any sessions, I offer a free 15-minute introductory call for us to consider how we might best work together. This gives you the chance to tell me a little about what has led you to reach out, and for you to ask me any questions. This conversation will help us define whether you would benefit most from therapy, coaching or a blended approach.

It is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist, and there is no obligation to book any additional sessions.

If you are happy to proceed, our first session will involve further exploration of what has led you to therapy; what you hope to get from our time working together; and any apprehensions you may have. It is likely that we will also begin to build a picture of other important elements in your life such as family, friends, work/studies and support networks.
