About me and my therapy practice
Single Session Therapy (SST)
What is SST?
We will work together, focusing on a single issue with the intention of me helping you walk away from the session with the help you are looking for, which when you implement it will make a meaningful difference to your life. The session lasts up to 60 minutes.
Is SST for me?
Sometimes all we need is one conversation to get things moving in the right direction. SST is perfect if you have a specific issue you'd like to focus on or if you're facing a tough decision, feeling stuck or looking for some clarity or guidance. This focused session will help you explore solutions and take actionable steps forward.
No long term commitment is required, just timely and effective support when you need it most.
What can SST help me with?
People seek help with a wide range of difficulties. To name a few include stress, anxiety, conflict, relationship issues, procrastination, bereavement/loss, uncertainty or just feeling stuck.
Practice description
Can I prepare for SST?
Most clients find it helpful to complete my pre-Session questionnaire. The questionnaire is designed to help you focus your thoughts and get the most out of the session. Sharing it with me beforehand also allows me to prepare for our time together.
What does SST involve?
Once you decide to proceed with SST, here’s what happens next:
We will schedule an appointment which can be in-person or online via Zoom (no Zoom account is needed; I’ll provide a link in the confirmation email).
During the session:
We’ll start by ensuring you understand the purpose of the session and clarify what you’d like to achieve.
We’ll agree on a focus for the session—usually the issue for which you are seeking help.
Together, we’ll explore a potential solution to your issue, and you’ll have the opportunity to rehearse it to determine if it feels right for you.
If it does, I’ll help you develop a clear plan for implementation and ensure you leave with actionable takeaways.
What happens at the end & after our session?
At the conclusion of the session, we’ll discuss your next steps, which may include:
Feeling that you’ve achieved what you came for and needing no further help.
Taking time to implement what you’ve learned and deciding later if further support is needed.
Opting for additional support, which could involve another SST session, time-limited therapy, or ongoing therapy.

Counselling for Midlife.
Are you fed up of feeling like this:
Frazzled and frayed around the edges with what midlife has thrown at you and wondering what the heck happened?
Do you feel like you are just treading water or permanently pleasing others whilst struggling with feelings of low mood, sadness, grief & loss?
Or is it that you’re feeling stuck with a sense of no purpose or direction in life or that your self confidence has upped and left? Has it left you with a sense of disconnection in your relationships and loneliness?
Stuck with feelings of regret & disappointment or perhaps anger about the past or with your current circumstances?
A feeling of anxiety about your future?
And want to feel more like this:
Happier, calmer, positive & optimistic about the future.
Less anxious & overwhelmed. Gain a sense of agency/control in your life.
Improve your relationships to feel closer & connected to others, reducing feelings of loneliness.
Rediscovering your self-esteem and self-confidence.
An increased sense of joyfulness & fun.
Practice description
I’m here to help you make a positive, lasting change.
As a fellow midlifer, I understand the unique challenges that come with this stage of life. If you're looking for support, you're in the right place. I’m not just a qualified counsellor based in Harrogate— I also bring the experience of a long career as an NHS nurse specialising in sexual health, contraception, menopause and HIV..
Like many midlifers, I’ve juggled countless responsibilities, frantically spinning plates and hoping they wouldn’t crash.
I’ve worked with many midlifers facing challenges such as divorce or separation, adjusting to an empty nest after children leave home, coping with bereavement, navigating retirement or redundancy, or managing the demands of being part of the "sandwich generation"—caring for both children and ageing parents.

About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel that your life has been turned upside down following a bereavement or some other loss, or perhaps you just feel that you have lost your way in life? If this is you then I can work with you to navigate a way through the emotional overwhelm to help make sense of your world.
Since your loss have you noticed a change in your mood, difficulty sleeping and possibly struggling in your relationships with others? These are all normal emotions at such a time, but you may feel stuck and don't seem to be able to move forward. That's where I can help you.
I specialise in working with those who have suffered a loss. This might be through the loss of a person or beloved pet but can also include what I call non-bereavement loss - such as that experienced when a relationship ends, children leave home or through retirement and redundancy. Other examples of non-bereavement loss include:
- Loss of identity.
- Loss of confidence.
- Loss of some aspect of our physical self such as fertility, eyesight
or mobility.
- Loss of property or a business.
My job is to work with you to help untangle the emotional and physical problems you are experiencing and get you to a place where you have a better relationship with yourself, others and the world around you. In a nutshell: to feel more at ease.
Practice description
I work in what is called the person-centred approach, with its origins in humanistic psychology. It is based on the view that given the right conditions everyone has the ability for personal growth and change. I like its gentle and effective way of assisting clients to feel liberated and gain a sense of agency in their lives.
As a qualified integrative therapist I may also use therapeutic techniques from other approaches, tailoring all interventions according to your needs.
After a long career in the NHS working as an advanced nurse specialist I now work exclusively as a psychotherapist/counsellor with some of my time in the charitable sector.
Professional Qualifications and Â鶹Դ´s.
Post Graduate Diploma - Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy (Leeds Beckett University)
Certificate in Single Session Therapy.
Member of The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (Â鶹Դ´)
My first session
Your first step is to book a free 20-minute introductory call. Please go to the contacts page here or via my website leaving your name, telephone and email with the best time to contact you. I will then arrange a time for us to meet either by video-call or telephone.
This will give us a chance to get to know each other, to look at what you are struggling with and what you want to achieve from counselling. I can answer any questions you may have. At this point you can either decide to book a first appointment straight away or you can take more time to think about it and get back to me when you feel ready.
I offer single session therapy, time-limited and ongoing therapy. More details about these can be found on my website.
