About me and my therapy practice
Your inner world is waiting to be explored. I’m here to guide you on the journey and support you as you learn to live more fully, creatively and authentically.
I work with people experiencing anxiety, grief, low mood, relationship issues - and anyone who's going through difficult changes in life and trying to find a way forward.
What I bring to the therapeutic relationship depends on you, the client: starting from a place of warmth, non-judgement, and gentle curiosity, we will create an environment that supports you in moving from survival to flourishing.
In my earlier career as an ethnographer and journalist, I lived in countries as diverse as Yemen, Tanzania, and the Netherlands, and met people from all walks of life. Listening to their stories, understanding different perspectives, and finding the deeper meaning behind the words has been the basis of my work. I bring this open-mindedness and empathy into my therapy practice.
I came to psychotherapy through an interest in existential philosophy, meditation, and Eastern contemplative traditions, as well as through my own experience of loss, life changes, and transformations.
Practice description
I’m an integrative relational therapist: that means that my practice is informed by various approaches - including transactional analysis, existential therapy, and the psychodynamic - and that the relationship between client and therapist is central.
I work with all kinds of issues, and believe that meaningful, authentic conversations can be transformative. I have a particular interest in working with:
Life transitions and existential issues
When you feel you’ve reached a crossroads, whether it’s a separation or divorce, a change of work, moving to a new place, the changes that come with getting older, or something else.
Grief and loss
Loss comes in many forms, from bereavement to the loss of a relationship to childhood abandonment - even the sense that you’ve lost part of yourself. Going through the process of grief is an important part of letting go and moving forward.
Cross-cultural issues
Perhaps you’ve moved to a new country, you’re a long-term traveller or digital nomad, or cultural differences are impacting your relationships. Talking it through can help you understand and reconnect.
My first session
If you’d like a quick chat before booking an initial appointment, please get in touch and we can arrange a free 15-minute phone call to help you decide if I’m the right counsellor for you.
Our first session together—whether it’s face-to-face or online—will give you the chance to ask any further questions you may have, and to tell me something about yourself and what brings you to therapy. You set the pace, and there’s no commitment; this is an opportunity for me to get to know you, and for you to decide how you feel about working with me.
