About me and my therapy practice
I’m Rob, a person-centred counsellor based in Wiltshire. Thank you for visiting my profile.
If you have been considering working with a counsellor, I understand that contacting one for the first time can feel nerve-wracking and potentially very difficult. I hope that after reading my profile you feel more comfortable about reaching out.
I work with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, bereavement, depression, relationship difficulties and stress (please see below for a fuller description).
The cornerstone of my approach is valuing you as a unique individual. Your experiences are personal to you and felt deepest by you. Sharing them, whether it is for the first time or not, is a big step.
My belief is that, ultimately, each of us knows our own feelings, distresses and issues better than anyone else. However, it is often only through safely expressing them that we can consider their meanings and develop ways of processing them.
My guiding principle then is that each individual knows best what is right for them, and what they need to grow – although, of course, it may not feel like that to begin with!
As such, our sessions would focus on providing a space for you to talk and feel truly heard – unconditionally, empathetically, and confidentially. Through our weekly sessions, I will work alongside you in exploring your emotions and your circumstances, as we seek an outcome that allows you to feel more self-aware, develop lasting growth and able to live the life you truly want.
Practice description
At present, I offer online-only sessions via Zoom. I am also happy to hold sessions via telephone.
The content of each session would be led by you. I do not seek to interview you, give you homework or provide a definitive analysis of how to resolve a problem. The aim of each session is for our dialogue to be focussed on you, where you feel able to speak freely and without judgement.
Each session would last for 50 minutes and be held on a weekly basis. As part of the therapeutic relationship, I would regularly check-in with you to review our work to ensure you are receiving what you need from our time.
At present, I have availability for new clients on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, but do please contact me for more information.
My first session
When considering therapy, it is important you find a counsellor you are comfortable with and who you believe is right for your needs.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you would like to arrange a free introductory session, with no obligation.
An introductory session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, discuss what brought you to seek counselling, and how we can work together. The session lasts approximately 25 minutes and would be held online.
