About me and my therapy practice
From experience, I understand how daunting it can be to seek counselling, and given the chance, I truly believe it can be a positive experience. By making this choice you are acknowledging that changes have to be made. My role will be to enable you as my client to implement changes and restore or enhance your wellbeing, by building a strong, trusting, therapeutic relationship between us. This process is a collaboration between myself and you, as the client, and does require a certain level of commitment to the work involved, on both sides.
Hi, I’m peter and I’m a Â鶹Դ´ Registered (MÂ鶹Դ´) Counsellor / Psychotherapist offering short-term and long-term individual therapy to adults and young people. I am currently working face-to-face, telephone, using video Calling software and sometimes doing home visits and going outside.
I am a Psychodynamic counsellor / therapist, with experience of supporting adults and young people who self-refer.
Although Psychodynamically trained, I will sometimes draw on different counselling models, when needed, to work in a way which is appropriate to you as an individual.
My experience is gained from working in CAMHS (working with 10-18yrs old), as well as working with adults in third sector organisations (The Wynd Centre, Paisley; and Wellbeing Scotland).
Practice description
How we adapt to stress, and relate to others in later life is affected by our early experiences which can also affect the way we think about ourselves.
Psychodynamic Therapy explores both past and present experiences and how these can influence our present life and relationships.
As our thoughts, feelings, behaviours, actions and experiences are all connected, these can offer us clues into our concerns and unconscious. I offer my clients the freedom to pick the topics they wish to discuss in each session. This can be hugely beneficial as exploring these topics can help us make sense of what is underlying and allows us to navigate through these experiences with more clarity.
This offers the opportunity to really be honest with ourselves and confront our internal emotional truth. The Trauma’s we suffer in life, no matter how small, can affect everything – from the relationships we form later in life, the family dynamics we hope to achieve all impact the experiences we acknowledge or deny.
Our modern fast paced lifestyle has encouraged us to avoid thinking about emotional development in ourselves and our children. We often distract ourselves with gadgets, quick fixes and endless schedules, finding ourselves exhausted and too busy to pause and dig deeper. Life can become habit and routine, giving us little or no time to stop and evaluate what is really important for ourselves and our family. In my work I offer the space to do just that.
My first session
Before agreeing to a first session, I offer a free 15-minute consultation call to make sure we are a good fit, and to find out whether the psychodynamic approach is right for you..
In the first session, I will go through the therapy agreement with you which outlines confidentiality, booking and and cancellation policies.
There is also an opportunity to say more about what brings you to therapy.
