About me and my therapy practice
Living with chronic illness or pain can be incredibly challenging and often overwhelming. This is especially true when:
• You've experienced being ignored or gaslighted by medical professionals
• Your relationships with those closest to you are strained due to your changing needs
• You're grieving the life you thought you'd have
• You feel caught between what your body needs and what your inner critic demands
• You're repeatedly told "but you don't look sick"
If you're feeling overwhelmed by these challenges, you're not alone. Your struggles are valid, and you are not lazy, you're not lying, and you are absolutely enough – regardless of what your inner critic or society might be telling you.
Therapy can help you process these experiences, build resilience, and move forward with purpose. And contrary to what you might think, counselling doesn't have to drain your precious energy. It's just 50 minutes a week, and online or telephone sessions eliminate travel time when you're not up to it.
Together, we can help you navigate chronic illness by:
• Creating a space where you're truly heard, believed and respected – so you can build the confidence to advocate for yourself
• Exploring your emotional and physical needs – helping you communicate boundaries and show up in relationships in ways that work for YOU
• Discovering what brings meaning to your life while accepting necessary compromises – so you can live a life with purpose alongside your chronic condition
Practice description
I know that reaching out for support can feel scary – especially when you've had experiences of not being believed. My aim is to offer a down-to-earth, genuine space where you can just be yourself – no masking pain, no pretending to be okay.
I have personal experience living with chronic pain, which gives me a deepened empathy for the daily challenges chronic conditions bring. I've supported people living with Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, FND, Endometriosis, Epilepsy, Chronic Lyme, and many other conditions.
I'm not your typical therapist – I talk like a normal person (no therapy jargon!), I might swear occasionally, and I believe therapy should be a place where you can laugh as well as cry. Different strokes for different folks – we'll find an approach that works specifically for you.
I'm LGBTQIA+ affirming and body and fat positive.
My first session
Interested in working together? Let's start with a free 15-minute intro call to see if we'd be a good fit. No pressure, just a chance to ask questions and get a feel for whether I'm the right therapist for you.
When you reach out, please include your phone number so I can text you when I reply – those pesky spam filters sometimes hide my emails! I promise to respond to all enquiries.
Your first full session will be a bit more structured than future ones. We'll go through a simple contract about how we'll work together, and I'll ask some questions to understand your experiences, family dynamics, strengths, goals, and basic health information like sleep patterns and current coping strategies.
I completely get how daunting it can be to meet someone new, let alone share personal details with them. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable – there's no rush. As we build trust, you might feel ready to open up more, but that's entirely up to you.
You can always ask me questions or raise concerns at any point. I'm here to help you, not to make you feel more confused or unsure.
By the end of our first session, my aim is for you to feel heard, respected, and ready to begin your journey toward self-compassion and growth – regardless of your health challenges.
