About me and my therapy practice
I hold a MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling (from the University of Leeds). As an integrative counsellor I draw on a number of theories in my practice including Relational Psychoanalysis, Person Centred Therapy, Existentialism, Attachment Theory, Trauma Informed Approaches to Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (405423), and work within their ethical framework.
Research has shown that the most effective component of therapy is the relationship with your counsellor. To help you decide if you would like to work with me, I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation by phone or Google Meet. This will provide an opportunity to ask any questions you might have about the therapy process.
Educational background:
MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling (with distinction) - University of Leeds
[MA research focused on perception of counselling by South Asian women in Bradford]
PG Diploma in Professional Training for the Bar - BPP University, London
MA in Law - University of Cambridge
Practice description
Life is complicated. Like a spider in a web, who we are is interwoven with the relationships around us, experiences we have had and our sense of self. Counselling provides a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space to help you look closer at yourself and the web you find yourself in.
My therapeutic approach is integrative. This means I draw on a number of theories and allow them to influence my practice as it is appropriate for the work we are doing. We all have values and belief systems. Sometimes our struggles take us to the very centre of our exploration of these values and beliefs. As a Christian I am aware of the values that underpin my core beliefs and welcome clients spiritual explorations as part of the therapy process.
My first session
In the first session we will begin to explore what has brought you to therapy as well as what your hopes are from the counselling. I will ask for background information and may use some questionnaires related to your distress.
In the following sessions I will facilitate your therapy process in a safe way allowing you the freedom to explore what you have brought to therapy.
