Availability
If you prefer to have in-person sessions, I am currently available for in person counselling on Monday mornings at Tower Court, as an Associate of Serendipity Counselling. Appointments are between 8.30 and 1pm.
I am also working at York CVS, with the Therapy Collective, on Priory Street, in the city centre on Tuesdays with appointments between 8.30 and 7pm.
If you prefer online sessions or your schedule means evenings may be better for you, do email or text, and I will get back to you to discuss an introductory free session and possible future timings.
About me and my therapy practice
I work in what is called a Humanistic, Person-Centred approach. Therapists working in this way know how important the client/counsellor relationship is in order for change to happen. During our sessions, I offer you empathy, genuineness and non-judgemental listening. We will work collaboratively, with gentle curiosity, and the content of your sessions will be led by you, as the expert in your own life.
My work is to create an environment where you are free to notice emotions, feelings, interactions and patterns which may be affecting your capacity to feel ok. The work can very much be around circumstances that are external and challenging and require personal reflection in order to elicit change. Either way, curiosity and valuing our emotional and somatic (physical) responses supports the process to greater clarity and decision making, always with compassion and gentleness.
I see therapy as a one method of coming 'home' to ourselves.
Practice description
My practice is centred around an empathetic, genuine and non-judgemental listening space. I work with adults of all ages, on whatever people choose to bring.
I am a therapist/counsellor who values working with emotion as a way of growing and learning about ourselves and why our relationships work the way they do, not least our relationships with ourselves.
I love working with a wide range of people, from young adults to older members of our society. The issues that we share also make us feel isolated and frail. Challenges people face and bring to my practice include relationship problems, grief, anxiety, change, work-related issues, depression, anger, and pressure.
I also work with somatic (body) awareness. Noticing what the body is telling us is an effective way of working out that something is wrong or needs gentle investigation. And, at times, when it feels right, I work creatively with drawing, colour and objects. This can be a powerful way of expressing what cannot easily be spoken.
Our experiences are unique, (when shared with others, they are never the same) and each client / counsellor relationship is different. I will work with you in a way that feels safe and kind for you.
My first session
I offer a free introductory call or zoom for those who want this.
It helps a lot of people to see and hear a person before being in a therapeutic space with them.
During this time, you can ask questions and get a feel for if you would like to work with me. Counselling is personal. It feels right for me that you find someone who is right for you.
