About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel drawn to pornography or other sexually repetitive behaviours, and despite efforts, find it difficult to stop? You might feel unsure if your behaviours are okay and be wondering if you need help? Do they have a negative impact on your relationships, work, or social life, or add to feelings of loneliness, anxiety, depression, or shame?
I'm a registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist and I specialise in helping individuals who want to break free from an addiction, including pornography use or other sexual issues or addictions.
Using a structured, evidence based approach, I can help you explore your issues and achieve your goals. Together we can work to develop healthier coping strategies and help you regain control over your life.
Whether your behaviours are a secret struggle or something you've been confronted about by a loved one, or even the authorities, please know that you are not alone.
If you're ready to make a change, I'm here to support you. Please contact me via email or telephone to arrange a free 20 minute telephone consultation.
Practice description
What is Counselling?
Counselling provides a safe and confidential space to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns. It offers a dedicated time each week to focus on yourself. Your therapist will help you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, enabling you to develop a better understanding of yourself and your relationships.
A counsellor will not give you their opinions or advice but will assist you in working through your issues. Sharing parts of your story can help you gain insight into your challenges and make better sense of your experiences.
My first session
My approach is solution-focused and practical, designed to help you gain insight, break unhealthy patterns, and move forward with confidence.
Addictions can feel overwhelming, but with the right support, freedom is possible.
Step 1: Understanding the Problem:
If you're wondering whether your behaviour is a problem, we start by exploring your history. When did this behaviour start? How does it help you cope? What impact is it having on your life? Using a screening tool, we gain a clearer picture of your struggles in a non-judgemental way.
Step 2: Reducing Shame and Understanding Addiction:
Many people feel trapped by shame and guilt, which can make it harder to seek help. Together, we explore the neuroscience of addiction—how our brains work, the role of dopamine and neural pathways, and how addictive behaviours form and are maintained. When you understand what’s happening, it becomes easier to break free.
Step 3: Recover Planning and Relapse Prevention:
Once we’ve identified triggers, we develop a clear, structured recovery plan. This includes:
Practical strategies to manage cravings and triggers
Relapse prevention techniques to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your behaviours
A focus on long-term recovery, not just short-term solutions
