About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Michelle and I am a qualified therapist and registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
Unfortunately we all experience difficult times and something has found you in this place. Perhaps you are here because you are feeling anxious, depressed, struggling with low self-esteem or you haven’t yet had the opportunity to share your feelings. Are you wondering why you are feeling the way you are and find yourself struggling in other areas of your life such as your relationships, family issues or professionally.
I understand how vulnerable taking these first steps into counselling can make you feel. With that in mind, I work with you at your pace. Offering you the time and space to share what is absolutely key for you.
Predominantly, I work with a person centred approach, meaning that you have the potential to grow and change in positive ways. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to provide a safe and supportive space where you can express yourself without fear of judgement, exploring your issues, feelings and thoughts.
There are also opportunities to integrate elements from other therapeutic models, such as mindfulness, and creative methods, when appropriate. Working to support you to share freely and explore what’s important to you - however, or whatever that might be.
I work with clients from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, loss, identity, self-esteem and relationships. I respect your individuality and tailor my approach to suit your needs and goals. Fundamentally, you are the focus of our work together.
Additionally, I can competently work with psychosexual issues within our work together. For example - sexual issues, sexual identity and psychosexual work.
Overall and fundamentally, therapy is all about the relationship - where you can feel heard and supported, enabling you to fully explore your issues and needs.
Practice description
I am passionate about offering a supportive, empathetic and nurturing environment where you are able to explore difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgement.
My approach is based upon respect, empathy and unconditional positive regard. Walking alongside you to support you in identifying and addressing issues at your pace.
Why choose counselling?
Counselling can be a valuable way to process issues and emotions with a person that is not a friend or family member. It's a neutral space that can enable you to share your story with someone without judgement. Perhaps you need to talk about something you haven't shared before. Maybe you feel judged or unsupported and need an impartial listener.
Counselling can also help to develop and improve your understanding, self-esteem and self-acceptance by encouraging you to trust your instincts. Supporting the development of your own self-compassion by discovering new ways to cope with challenges more effectively. Therefore, improving relationships and communication.
It's a collaborative journey that honours your autonomy as an individual.
Location
My practice is based in Hamstreet, 15 minutes from South Ashford, Kent and is easily accessible from many surrounding locations.
There is ample driveway parking.
I offer a counselling space that has been mindfully curated with warmth and comfort to put you at ease during your session. A counselling room that has been designed to be a safe space where you can freely explore your thoughts and feelings. Prioritising your well-being and ensuring a supportive environment.
My first session
I understand how daunting the thought of a first counselling session can feel, and I want to reassure you that I appreciate any reservations you may have and how you might be feeling. Rest assured I offer a welcoming environment where you will hopefully feel at ease.
Whether it is your first time in counselling, or you have decided you wish to return, I want to acknowledge that it takes courage to take those first steps and reach out.
The first session will be more structured than the majority of the sessions as I ask you questions and take notes to gain a deeper understanding of you and your needs.
Each counselling session is 50 minutes long.
