About me and my therapy practice

Do you find yourself doing all the giving in relationships and not getting much back? Do you have empathy for others but struggle to express your own needs? Maybe you struggle with setting boundaries and keeping to them? Do you feel anxious in social situations and compare yourself negatively against others? You might have tried tips from self-help books or social media or read about the importance of self-love without really knowing what this would look like. Therapy can help.

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist experienced in helping clients develop self-compassion and self-acceptance, enabling them to gain a better sense of their own power and worth. I can support you in gaining the confidence to go for what you want, communicate your needs to others, and also in dealing with challenging relationships.

Sometimes people come to therapy when life's been tough for a long time. Other times it's a bereavement, loss or other sudden change which prompts them to get in touch. I  have experience of working in a specialist bereavement centre and understand how a bereavement or other major loss can destroy the world as we know it and leave us questioning what we are left with.

Practice description

I offer online sessions or face-to-face from counselling rooms on Beverley Road, Hull.

The standard fee is £56 for a 50 minute counselling session with concessions available for students.

There can be flexibility around how often we meet, but most of my clients find it useful to meet weekly or fortnightly.  Counselling may be short-term, longer term or open-ended. We can decide on this at the first session or introductory call, and keep it as flexible as you need as we progress.

I work from a person-centred core which means that I recognise you as the expert on your own life and as a natural authority on what is and isn't right for you. My practice is also informed by attachment theory and the psychodynamic approach which involves helping you to identify and work with long standing patterns of relating.

I am trauma aware and use the 3 stage model ensuring safety.
