About me and my therapy practice
Hi I'm April.
Everyone's journey is unique and varied, as are our experiences and responses to things. I understand the profound impact that poor mental health can have on someone. My own personal journey of self-discovery has not only influenced and informed my own approach to therapy, but it has also strengthened my ability to provide genuine empathy and support for my clients.
I am an experienced counsellor, and I'm aware that it can be extremely difficult to find someone who genuinely listens to us when we need to communicate how we truly feel. Past experiences can have a huge influence over how we function in the present, and just the weight of what others expect of us can feel crushing at times. Sadly, feeling unheard only contributes to our feelings of disconnectedness from ourselves and from others, causing us to feel incredibly lonely.
With that in mind, I recognise that taking the first step towards seeking help requires courage and can be one of the hardest decisions we have to make. In view of this, I strive to establish a nonjudgmental and respectful environment wherein my clients can openly and honestly explore their thoughts and feelings in a confidential and accepting environment.
Based on genuine empathy and openness, I offer an in-depth and helpful understanding of human behavior. Our sessions will focus on your unique issues and how these may be impacting you and your relationships.
My core theory is Person-centred theory; however, I also apply Transactional analysis and Attachment theory in my work, making it possible to provide a personalised approach with regard to every client's individual needs.
Practice description
I believe that the therapeutic relationship can provide you with an opportunity to gain a clearer insight into yourself, your problems, and your life.
It can help you to understand what’s really happening and why that is, before deciding for yourself if there are any changes you’d like to make.
I work in a non-judgemental and respectful way, in accordance with the requirements set out in the Â鶹Դ´ ethical framework.
My main objective is to support you with whatever you are feeling in the moment. I am extremely committed to promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion. I appreciate that everyone's experiences and needs are different and are determined by their unique cultural, societal, and personal backgrounds.
I work with adults as well as with neurodiversity and neurological diversity adults and those who identify as LGBTQ+.
You are most probably visiting my page because you are dealing with something and need a little more support. You might be feeling anxious, depressed, struggling with a trauma, or confronting another issue in your life that is impacting your emotional well-being, and you are desperate to find a way through this. Or you may feel unhappy with your life and would like to change things or move forward in some way and don't quite know what's stopping you or holding you back.
Well, my approach is to actively respond to whatever your unique issues are by supporting you in recognising for yourself what it is you truly desire or genuinely need.
Working together in this way, I feel, enhances the healing process while also promoting resilience and, as a result, encourages personal growth and the ability to be your authentic self.
My first session
For a new client, I am currently offering the first session at a reduced fee. This will be a complete 50-minute session, whether online or in person. In this session, I'll ask you what has led you to counselling and what you'd like to achieve.
This will also be a time for you to ask me any questions you may have or to express any reservations about coming to counselling. This one-off session is a good opportunity for a client to consider whether they would like to continue working with me.
It is important in the first instance to determine whether counselling is suitable for you. In our initial consultation, I shall attempt to give you some insight as to how therapy works and how it could possibly help you and improve your life.
