About me and my therapy practice

Using an integrative method of counselling I use a blend of person-centred counselling, psychodynamic counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). What that means is that firstly I am here to listen to you and for you to be heard, without judgement and with empathy and understanding. We may talk about what has happened for you in the past or look at tools to make daily life a little easier, but each session is lead by you. Counselling is different to coaching, I'm not here to give advice, but to help you to explore who you are, what is happening for you, and what that means for you.

Practice description

As a neurodivergent counsellor, with both training in and lived experience of ADHD and autism, I am sensitive to the specific needs of individuals with neurodiversity coming into the counselling room. During our first session we will establish what small changes can be made to ensure the counselling space feels safe and comfortable for you, for example, whether you can see the clock, whether you prefer brighter or dimmer lighting etc. You are also welcome to bring fidget toys or other comfort aides into the counselling space. I do ask that your phone is switched to silent and put away whilst the session is in progress to minimise distractions during the session.

My first session

During your first session with Meadowbrook Counselling, your therapist will ask you questions to get to know you better and understand what brings you to counselling. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the counselling process. There will be an initial assessment questionnaire to cover basic details, emergency contacts and GP details, plus an assessment to identify how your life is being impacted by low mood or anxiety symptoms. We will also go through a counselling agreement, also known as contracting, so you know what to expect from the counselling service.
